'Poop every other day' to save the planet, Brazilian President says

The Brazilian President has suggested people poop every other day in a bid to save the planet.

Jair Bolsonaro was asked by a journalist about agricultural development and protecting the environment. He has recently come under fire after official data found an increase in deforestation in the Amazon.

"It's enough to eat a little less," he responded. "You talk about environmental pollution. It's enough to poop every other day. That will be better for the whole world."

Since the far-right Bolsonaro came to power last year, deforestation of the Amazon has ramped up. In July it was measured at twice the speed as previous records - the loss of an area the size of Manhattan every day.

Bolsonaro has rejected environmentalists' concerns as "tomfoolery", and in June slammed international calls to halt deforestation.

"Brazil is the virgin that every foreign pervert wants to get their hands on," he told a local newspaper.
