It’s been 10 years in the making but the highly anticipated resort Banwa Private Island has now made its debut in the untouched North Palawan region of the Philippines. A buy-out rate of $100,000 per night immediately places it among the world’s most exclusive island retreats.

Set within this archipelago of around 1,780 emerald forested islands, Banwa shines for its natural beauty and seclusion. The 15-acre island is home to six stylishly designed beachfront villas, 12 gardens rooms, and one residential 360-degree suite, which is positioned at the highest point of the island for unrivalled views over the ocean. Each villa comes with its own Jacuzzi deck, private infinity pool and dedicated butler service, and floor-to-ceiling windows ensure the beach and ocean views never go unseen.

Guests fly in by helicopter, then days are spent making the most of the on-island activities, unwinding with unlimited treatments in the massage suite and exploring the island’s natural surroundings.

Play tennis and beach volleyball, practice golf on the short game course and follow a class in the pilates studio with a stop at the juice bar. Kayak, paddleboard and jet ski from the beach, then venture offshore to snorkel and dive on the world-renowned UNESCO World Heritage Tubbataha Reef, explore on one of the island’s yachts and set out on scenic helicopter flights

Make the journey to dive sites on the island’s limousine tender, the Wajer 38. And for a longer excursion, spend a couple of nights on board the Lagoon 630 Catamaran while discovering the region’s more remote islands. This archipelago is celebrated for its dramatic landscape. The Puerto Princesa Underground River has been designated a UNESCO World Heritage site and listed among the New 7 Wonders of Nature, and the untouched reef of Araceli is a known site for swimming with manta rays.

Back at the resort, dining venues are dotted across the island. Dine with your toes in the sand at Coconut Grove, see the sunset from the Terrace Bar of Latitude Restaurant and try the cocktails of Infinity Quay.

A stay here could easily focus solely on indulgence, but the new resort places emphasis on health and wellness too, giving guests access to a nutritionist throughout their stay. Banwa Private Island’s head chef, Nadedja Bouacha, is the former private chef and nutritionist of the Qatar Royal Family, and in line with this wellness philosophy, the island has its own organic farm and two wells drawing naturally replenishing fresh spring water from 500 ft below the island’s white sand.

Preservation of the surrounding environment is naturally of the utmost importance. The island is proving its commitment to the environment’s protection by supporting The Aquos Foundation in its research, education initiatives and special projects, including reef regeneration, to nurture the natural surroundings, marine life and flora and fauna for years to come.

Headshot

For that price, all of the "free" massages had better have very happy endings.
