MANDAUE CITY, Philippines — A couple, who were on a motorcycle, was shot dead by two men on another motorcycle at the corner of SB Cabahug Street and AC Cortes Avenue in Barangay Ibabao, Mandaue City at past 11 p.m. on Sunday, April 14, 2019.

Their eight-year-old daughter, who was with couple on the motorcycle, survived the attack, said Police Master Sergeant Marino Lofranco of the Mandaue City Police Office, the investigator on the case, during an interview with CDN Digital.

Marino said a friend of the murdered victims identified them as Fraldine Kate Ramayla Canes, 24, and her husband, Michael Canes, 27, who are both residents of Barangay Umapad, Mandaue City.

Marino said that the victims suffered several gunshot wounds to the body.

According to initial police investigation, the couple, who were into the RTW (ready to wear) clothes business, had just come from the North Bus terminal to send some of their products to Bantayan Island in northern Cebu.

They were heading home when they were followed by two assailants on a motorcycle and were shot at as they arrived at the intersection of SB Cabahug Street and AC Cortes Avenue.

The daughter, who was thrown off the motorcycle when it crashed after her father was shot, survived the attack.

Lofranco said that they are looking into the business angle as a possible motive to the attack.

Police in Mandaue City believe they have a key witness to the killing of a couple here late Sunday night, April 14, 2019.

Police Major Aldrin Villacampa, chief of Station 1 of the Mandaue City Police Office, said the testimony of the witness, whose identity won’t be divulged for security reasons, will be a huge help in the investigation of the murder of couple Fraldine Kate Ramayla Canes, 24, and her husband, Michael Canes, 27.

The Canes couple was shot dead by a still unidentified assailant along the intersection of S.B. Cabahug Street and A.C. Cortes Avenue in Barangay Ibabao.

According to Villacampa, the witness has given the investigators a bit of information that can help in the investigation. But they are not expecting more information at the moment, especially since the witness is still traumatized with the shooting incident.

Police Master Sergeant Marino Lofranco, the investigator on the case, they are still looking at all possible angles in the killing.

Lofranco also said that there were possibly four suspects who carried out the late-night killing of the couple.  He said aside from the gunman and the driver of the motorcycle the killer was riding, Lofranco said there may have been two others in a motorcycle who served as lookouts, based on closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage they obtained from establishments in the area.

Because it’s critical to let two suspects, who maybe didn’t know they were suspects, know they are suspects, possibly caught on cctv.

Might help.  Now they have 4 or more people that have to wonder if one of the others is going to rat them out.  Remember, the first rat gets the best deal.
