How to Make a Donation to the Forum

There have been some misconceptions that you are required to have, or to open a PayPal account in order to make a donation. This is only true if you want to make a direct cash donation. When making a cash donation, the processing company (PayPal) needs to know where to get the cash you're using to make a donation. PayPal makes a cash payment by withdrawing that cash from a bank account, an approved debit card or credit card. This is why you would need an account with PayPal.

If you want to "Donate with a Debit or Credit Card", you are not required to have, or to create a PayPal account.

The debit or credit card is still processed via PayPal, but you're not required to have a PayPal account for this payment option.

Below, is the first screen you will see when you click on the "Donations" tab near the top of the screen. If you select a "Donate" button from somewhere else on the forum, it will bypass the following screen and take you to the one below it.

  1. Select the "Donate Now" button on "Forum's Operating Expenses Fund 2019"

Below, is the screen you will see after you select the "Donate Now" button on "Forum's Operating Expenses Fund 2019" or a "Donate" button elsewhere on the forum.

  1. From this screen you will need to select the donation amount from the dropdown menu. The minimum amount is $5.
  2. Under "Select goal", make sure you choose the "Forums Operating Expenses Fund" option from the drop down menu.
  3. The "Select gateway" only has one option "PayPal". This might be where there has been some confusion in the past. People see this and assume that they have to have PayPal account. Again, that is only required for cash payments.
  4. Hit the "Continue" button

After hitting continue on the screen above, you will see the following screen.

You can see that it shows PayPal as the "Major payment gateway". This is because PayPal does the processing of the donation.

  1. "Anonymous donation" Select if you want your user name hidden from public display as a donor.
  2. "Anonymous amount" Select if you want the amount you donated hidden from public display. You may want to show you donated, but not how much.
  3. Hit the "Pay Now button".

After you hit the "Pay Now button, you will see following screen. There are two choices on this screen.

  1. If you have a PayPal account and want to use it, then select "Donate with PayPal" If you don't have a PayPal account, you can create a PayPal account after selecting this option.
  2. If you want to donate with a debit or credit card, then select "Donate with a Debit or Credit Card"
  3. If you hit "Cancel and return to PI Technology Group", it will return you to the forums "Donations" page.
  4. Hit the "Pay Now" button.

The following screen is where you fill in your debit or credit card information.

Other than your user name and amount of donation, none of this information is shared with the forum. It's all processed by PayPal.

  1. Fill in all the information.
  2. Hit "Donate Now"

If the payment is approved you will get the following screen.

You should get an email from PayPal similar to the one below.

You will also get two PMs from Member #1 similar to the ones below.

Your member group has been upgraded as part of a recent donation promotion.

If you didn't select anonymous, your name and donation will show on the donation page.

The amount shown will be less than the donation because of the processing transaction fee charged to the forum by PayPal.
