THE mother of Christine Lee Silawan refused to sign an affidavit that would have been used as basis to file a complaint against Renato Llenes, the man who supposedly confessed to killing the teenager. Lourdes Silawan set conditions to affixing her signature: 1) include Christine’s former boyfriend in the complaint, and 2) include rape in the charges against Llenes. Without Lourdes’s signature, no complaint was filed against Llenes on Friday, April 12. - https://www.sunstar.com.ph/article/1801357/Cebu/Local-News/Silawans-mother-refuses-to-sign-affidavit-no-raps-filed-vs-killer

PNP getting called out

The NBI arrested Christine’s ex-boyfriend, who was only 17 years old at the time, on suspicion that he was the “CJ Diaz” chatting with Christine on Facebook Messenger. But Llenes, in his supposed admission of the crime, said he was “CJ Diaz” who chatted with Christine.

You're welcome, NBI

Some of the discussion is getting to be a bit ghoulish. Fair warning. If anyone posts postmortem photos. It will be their last post on LinC...

I guess he’s trying to say he’s got other reasons besides just the reward 😊

“I respect Mrs. Silawan's refusal to sign the complaint-affidavit against Mr. Llenes unless my client is included in the case. But I hope that she would realize that by her refusal, she was refusing justice for her daughter.” Isles told Rappler. “It is unfortunate that everyone, including my client, is wishing for justice for Christine, yet her mother refuses the very justice our community wants to obtain.”

“I do not know the expertise of Dr. Erwin Erfe (PAO)"...the lawyer lashed out at the agency for “dipping into the case.”  “We should be asking them why they insist on the rape case as well as we should ask them what is really their mandate. Why are they meddling in this investigation?” Isles said. - https://www.rappler.com/nation/228118-mother-wants-killed-cebu-teen-silawan-ex-boyfriend-charged

Teen suspect cleared, man faces murder rap for Christine Silawan slay.

Both the NBI-7 and the police presented almost the same set of closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage,  The NBI presented three witnesses accounts claiming that the person in the video with Silawan was the ex-boyfriend. However, when we called them up for clarificatory investigation and to affirm their sworn affidavit submitted by the NBI-7, none of them came.)  - https://cebudailynews.inquirer.net/233406/lapu-lapu-fiscal-file-murder-case-against-llenes-in-court

NBI-7 claimed that some clothing, shoes and papers they seized from the ex-boyfriend during his arrest on May 16 turned positive of bloodstains and DNA, the items could not be admitted as evidence in court because those were not covered by the search warrant - https://cebudailynews.inquirer.net/233406/lapu-lapu-fiscal-file-murder-case-against-llenes-in-court

The only actual, material blood and DNA evidence found in this case, pointed to the suspect they just cleared. Welcome to the Philippines. Now about that reward money...

The victims mother, who nobody seems to care about except the PAO - is still standing strong, refusing to accept the "confession":

Quote

Lourdes, refused to stand as the private complainant in the filing of the murder charge against Llenes before the Prosecutors Office. "We in the prosecutors office can just file the case without her signature or participation,” Zaragoza explained. Lourdes wanted the 18-year-old suspect to still be implicated in the case filed by the police, a request that the police did not heed because they did not have any evidence linking him in the case.  - https://cebudailynews.inquirer.net/235467/silawan-murder-case-arraignment-of-self-confessed-killer-set

Reporter forgot to mention that while PNP didn't have any evidence against the boyfriend, the NBI and the PAO did. Unfortunately the PAO chief no longer has a career, that's what happens when you proffer evidence that contradicts whatever the PNP says:

Quote

The PAO forensic evidence supported the NBI theory that 16-year-old Christine Silawan's killer was her teenage former boyfriend. The Lapu-Lapu City prosecutors eventually rejected that theory, along with the PAO forensic report. Well, PAO chief Persida Rueda-Acosta and Dr. Erwin Erfe are being charged before the ombudsman for graft, falsification of documents and malversation of public funds and their suspension is being sought. - https://www.sunstar.com.ph/article/18068

The prosecution claims they won't accept, let's see if he retracts his (false) confession:

Quote

“If they want to plea guilty, then they plea guilty to murder. That is what we filed against him and there are aggravating circumstances that are stated in the information,” If convicted of murder, Llenes may be punished with reclusion perpetua or 20 to 40 years in jail. - https://cebudailynews.inquirer.net/237855/prosecutor-downgrading-murder-case-vs-self-confessed-teen-killer-not-an-option

Murder is 20 to 40 but drugs or trafficking are life sentences, makes sense...nowhere.

It would have been far more convenient and efficient to just say is was a foreigner IMO...

By now they would have arrested at least 3/4 suspects departing local airports baring a resemblance ...Good chance at least one would have been charged  and well on the way to being convicted by now.

Sayang!!

Police Chief Limuel Obon’s name was written on the “pay to the order of” section of the check, so the official would not encounter any problem in the encashment.

Also not surprising:

The recipients include the current live-in partner and two estranged lovers of Renato Llenes, the self-confessed killer of Silawan.

You really can’t make this stuff up!

And they have no sense or care how it projects banana republic either, as a side note.

Suspect for killing, peeling face of Christine Silawan found dead in jail

The suspect for killing and peeling the face of Christine Lee Silawan was found dead inside a jail in Cebu.

Based on information obtained from Central Visayas police chief Brigadier General Albert Ignatius Ferro on Monday, a fellow inmate found 44-year-old Renato Llenes unconscious inside the infirmary cell in Lapu-Lapu City jail.

Llenes was rushed to Lapu-Lapu City District Hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival by the doctor.

The suspect’s cause of death has not been revealed.

In March 2019, the 16-year-old went missing after leaving a 6 pm Church Mass on Sunday. When her body was discovered the following morning, it was found that she had been stabbed 30 times and had part of her face sliced off.

Suspect for killing Christine Silawan ‘inspired’ by Momo Challenge

Renato Llenes, aged 45, said he killed Christine after she refused to have sex with him. He said he became obsessed with his victim after grooming her on Facebook under the alias of ‘C J Diaz’.

He said he met Christine in person on March 10, a day before she was found dead and mutilated on a vacant lot in Lapu-Lapu City.

Llenes said the teenager walked away from him after discovering his real age and identity. He described how he had already been angered when Christine told him that she was no longer a virgin.

He then became violent and attempted to rape her but was unable to get an erection.

After this, he stabbed her to death with a pair of scissors, he claimed. He told police that he cut off her face to conceal her identity.

He claimed that he learned how to peel the skin off a human face through “Facebook, YouTube, and the Momo Challenge”. The last of these is a controversial online fad blamed for encouraging children to self-harm.

The suspect said he had been on drugs at the time and surrendered because his conscience was bothering him.

In June 2019, Llenes, however, plead not guilty for killing Silawan. Lawyer Manuel Degolacion, his counsel, said Llenes entered the not guilty plea in the hope of downgrading the case to homicide.

Degolacion said that by pleading not guilty, the court would still hear the prosecution and determine if the killing of Christine met the requirement for it to be considered murder.

He emphasized that they only wished to mitigate the punishment for Llenes by entering the not guilty plea, and his previous confession was not being retracted.
