My wife is in Lapu-Lapu at the moment visiting her family among other things. This poor girl's body was left in a vacant block of land opposite my wife's mothers place. She did not  go  to see the body herself but her brother did and was shocked by what he saw. She was laying partly dressed and uncovered with a crowd of people standing around her, some taking photos to send to there friends, family and some just looking but all in shock. She indeed had her face and ears removed and not by any stray dog. I think the president is in town at the moment as he is as shocked as everyone. It happened in the early hours of the morning, I do not know how no one heard her screams as it is a heavily populated area. My wife is still in shock and just wants to come home, I hope they find those responsible and skin them live!!!!

An official of the Philippine National Police (PNP) Crime Laboratory said that aside from the 30 stab wounds found on Silawan's body, her tongue and some parts of her throat were forcibly removed from her when she was murdered.  Superintendent Benjamin Lara, PNP Crime Laboratory medico legal officer, said based on their autopsy, Silawan's esophagus, trachea or mouth piece, and muscles within her neck were ripped from her.  Even her right ear was also ripped off, Lara added.  Though there is a possibility that an animal may have eaten Silawan's throat and tongue, since her body was found 12 hours after she was killed, Lara said there were no signs that she was bitten.  "At front part nang neck niya and right side and part of the left side, wala na rin yung ini-examine natin. We noted yung trachea, yung daanan nang hangin, yung esophagus and yung entire muscular nang neck wala na, open na yung neck at nakita na yung neck vertebrae. Including the tongue, wala na rin," Lara said.  Lara added that the suspects may have intentionally removed those parts from Silawan's body to delay the identification of the victim and give the killers a chance to hide.  He said the killers may have used a special knife to remove the throat and tongue from Silawan's body, citing it would be difficult to remove them using an ordinary weapon.  He admitted that even during autopsies, it is hard for them to remove the specific parts that were missing from Christine's body, including the skin from her face.  Lara described the skinning of the victim as “carefully and meticulously done,” which may mean it took hours. - https://www.sunstar.com.ph/article/1796636/Cebu/Local-News/Lapu-Lapu-City-Government-to-raise-P1-million-to-help-solve-Christine-Silawan-murder

Strange case,  no apparent rape or robbery motive,  more like something a cult would do, either the face-skinning cult member Jonas Bueno or a copycat:

THE Philippine National Police Crime Laboratory is investigating any similarities in the killings of 16-year-old Christine Silawan and 60-year-old Trinidad Batucan.  Both Silawan and Batucan were killed and their faces skinned to the bone.  Silawan was found dead in Barangay Bangkal, Lapu-Lapu City Monday, March 11. She was half naked.  Batucan, on the other hand, was found dead on January 11, 2019. His skin on the face and chest had been removed.  Three brothers, who are reportedly members of a cult, were identified as suspects in the killing.  The suspects were identified as brothers Junrey, Juvy and Jonas Bueno. The three were reportedly former members of the New People's Army operating in the mountain barangays of Carmen and Danao.  Junrey and Juvy were killed in a follow-up police operation on January 13.  Jonas is still at large...She said that according to residents in Danao, the brothers are doing a ritual and are keeping some kind of a charm inside a small container that is tied to their bodies. The Buenos Brothers topped Carmen’s list of most wanted criminals, and reportedly established a cult in the remote areas in the town.   “Based on the accounts of residents from the hinterland villages, these Buenos Brothers pillage farmers’ lands. And if the farmers refuse to cooperate, they will kill them,” Getigan said.   “They are former rebels but instead of being law-abiding citizens, they spread fear among the mountain barangays in Danao City and Carmen. This is also one of the reasons why farmers leave the mountains recently,” she added.   According to Getigan, a shootout transpired between the three suspects and operatives from the Danao City Police Station two days after Batucan was killed.   “Jovie and Junrey were killed during the encounter but the other one, Jonas, still remains at large,” she said.- https://www.sunstar.com.ph/article/1796502

some minimal measures to preserve some dignity wouldn't be tough to implement.

I have no idea at what stage the pictures were taken, but the scene can not be altered in any way until the SOCO Team is done with their investigation.

Portable screens are readily available, even if they don't have walmart in PH.

DAVAO CITY, Philippines – A man believed to be a suspect in the brutal killing of 16-year-old Cristine Silawan was arrested here on Friday afternoon, March 15.  According to Police Brigadier General Marcelo Morales, Southern Mindanao police chief, Jonas Bueno was arrested in Purok Santiago, Barangay Matina Crossing, Davao City, at around 5 pm.  He was arrested over the killing of another victim, 62-year-old Trinidad Batucan from Danao City, Cebu, whose face was also skinned.  A combined team from the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) 11, the Regional Intelligence Group 11, the local police, and the National Bureau of Investigation made the arrest.  Bueno's arrest was carried out under Oplan Pagtugis, through a warrant issued by Danao City Regional Trial Court Judge Jerry Dicdican in connection with Batucan's gruesome murder.  Police Chief Inspector Milgrace Driz, who headed the arresting CIDG team, said Bueno did not resist arrest.  She said the arresting team had found out that Bueno had been using an alias while living in Matina Crossing here.  "He has been known in the area as Jason Martel," she added.  Bueno was the remaining suspect in the Batucan murder. His siblings Junrey and Juvy were killed in a police operation shortly after Batucan's killing.  The similarity in the killings had prompted police to consider Bueno as a suspect in the Silawan killing.  Silawan, a Grade 9 student of Maribago High School, was found naked from the waist down, her face skinned to the bone, in a vacant lot in Barangay Bangkal, Lapu-Lapu City, Cebu on Monday, March 11.  Police Colonel Manuel Abrugena, chief of the Cebu Provincial Police Office, was quoted by Cebu media as saying they were not discounting the possibility that the two murder incidents were related.  The Bueno siblings were said to be cultists.  "There is a probability, but so far we don't have evidence that would connect the two incidents," he was quoted as saying.  Matina Crossing residents living near the house where Bueno and her live-in partner Connie Nacion were staying said the couple arrived in the area about 4 days ago.  - https://www.rappler.com/nation/225851-suspect-killing-cebu-student-arrested-davao-city

Maybe he'll have an unfortunate series of falls on his way to trial.

Jonas Bueno admitted that he, along with his two brothers, was involved in the killing of Trinidad “Trening” Batucan, 62, but the suspect maintained that he was not involved in Silawan’s death. - https://www.mindanews.com/top-stories/2019/03/suspect-denies-involvement-in-killing-of-minor-in-cebu/

No evidence linking Bueno to her death, this case is far from solved.

THE National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) confirmed the arrest of the primary suspect in the murder of Christine Lee Silawan in Barangay Bangkal, Lapu-Lapu City.  Lawyer Tomas Enrile, NBI-Central Visayas director, said the suspect is a minor and former lover of Silawan.  The suspect admitted that jealousy was one of the reasons he murdered the 16-year-old Silawan. - https://www.sunstar.com.ph/article/1797372/Cebu/NBI-7-confirms-Silawans-killer-arrested
