Fanny all-female band members are Jean Millington: bass guitar & vocals, June Millington: guitar & vocals, Nickey Barclay: keyboards & vocals, Alice de Buhr: drums & vocals. After Filipina sisters June Millington (b.1948) and Alice Millington (b.1949) moved from Manila, Philippines to Los Angeles, California, they formed Fanny, the world's first major all-female band to sign with a major label. This is distinct from a girl group, in which the female members are solely vocalists. Their first album on Reprise Records was Fanny released in 1970. Before The Runaways, The Bangles and The Go-Go's there was Fanny who paved the way to the success of musical groups exclusively composed of female musicians. As quoted by rock legend David Bowie in a Rolling Stone 1999 interview: "One of the most important female bands in American rock has been buried without a trace. And that is Fanny. They were one of the finest... rock bands of their time, in about 1973. They were extraordinary... they're as important as anybody else who's ever been, ever; it just wasn't their time. Revivify Fanny. And I will feel that my work is done." Jean Millington wrote the successful 1975 #29 charted song "Butter Boy" about her big love DAVID BOWIE. June sang in the chorus of Bowie's FAME.

I liked them way back when..
