Thats what I was also thinking , a bit of a burden for the Philippines ...in Australia where they fleeced 100's of millions of dollars they would probably get sentenced to 10 years and be out in 6 years....

Keeping in mind smartasses like this would have already squirrelled their ill gotten gains away into untouchable overseas bank accounts ...

Better to keep them here for life than in one of the western detention palaces for a few years.  Far cheaper for Oz if they offer to pay the PI for their incarceration.  What's 3 dried fish and 3 cups of rice cost per day compared to the millions to house them in luxury?

Reminds me.....  I seem to remember reading some short story in about 6th grade where the setting was in the future and the family was going to a public execution, stoning or something.  The son had been trying to make time with some girl at school so he let his guard down and she cut him with a knife or something.  So he was required to go to the execution as a first strike scared straight measure.  The executed had had their third strikes.  Being the victim of a crime was illegal.

So, less than AUD2K per year for life maybe 50 years if they're way lucky (or unlucky) would be less than AUD100K.  OTOH what would 1 year in an Ozzie jail run?

On a per-prisoner basis, Australian prisons are the world's fourth most expensive. It costs $110,000 to imprison someone for a year in this country.
