Better to keep them here for life than in one of the western detention palaces for a few years.  Far cheaper for Oz if they offer to pay the PI for their incarceration.  What's 3 dried fish and 3 cups of rice cost per day compared to the millions to house them in luxury?

Reminds me.....  I seem to remember reading some short story in about 6th grade where the setting was in the future and the family was going to a public execution, stoning or something.  The son had been trying to make time with some girl at school so he let his guard down and she cut him with a knife or something.  So he was required to go to the execution as a first strike scared straight measure.  The executed had had their third strikes.  Being the victim of a crime was illegal.

So, less than AUD2K per year for life maybe 50 years if they're way lucky (or unlucky) would be less than AUD100K.  OTOH what would 1 year in an Ozzie jail run?
