Imelda Marcos ordered arrested for seven counts of graft

Quote

Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, November 11) — The anti-graft court ordered on Friday the arrest of Ilocos Norte Representative Imelda Marcos after it found her guilty of seven counts of graft.

The 89-year-old Marcos was sentenced to imprisonment for a minimum of six years and one month to a maximum of 11 years  "in each case" where she was found guilty.

The Sandiganbayan said the former first lady can have provisional liberty if she posts a cash bond while appealing the conviction.

Marcos, who is running for Ilocos Norte governor in the 2019 elections, was also perpetually disqualified from holding public office. But Ombudsman Prosecutor Rey Quilala said she can still run until the Sandiganbayan's decision becomes final and executory.

The Office of the Ombudsman filed 10 graft cases in 1991, stemming from the alleged private organizations Marcos created in Switzerland from 1968 to 1984 while she held various posts in government. The widow of the late former President Ferdinand Marcos served as the Minister of Human Settlement, Metro Manila Governor, and a member of the Interim Batasang Pambansa, the legislature during the Marcos regime.

The Ombudsman prosecutor said the Marcos family had "financial interest" in the seven Swiss foundations they created, which is pegged to amount to $200 million.Read more.

If you were to take this idea a step or two farther----why wouldn't Imee and Bong Bong be perpetually disqualified from holding public office?

The two Marcos kids didn't swindle the PI out of millions of USD obviously but both of their political careers were certainly kick started or perhaps totally dependent on monies that the two parents did swindle from the PI. Just a thought.

Because Bong Bong might be the next president. The plan was that Bong Bong would have been elected as Vice President and DU30 steps down, which he already said, but as long Leni is there he cannot do that. Bong Bong tried an electoral protest against Leni.

So we have to wait and see what will happen next (money is no object here - they more than the 200m that was officially reported by the Swiss - there might be hundreds more trust around)

Perhaps he never stopped to think that the US set his father up as the president of the RP and allowed him to rule as a dictator as long as he did what the US wanted.  Bong bong would probably still be digging around in the dirt in Leyte or wherever he comes from if the US had not allowed his father and mother to literally murder and pillage the country.  So, for him to resent the US for the way it treated his father upon his death is shortsighted at the least and profound ingratitude at the worst.

Perhaps you should bone up on your history, compared to what the Aquino's did, the Marcos family was small change..

I am intrigued that in order to increase your knowledge of the Aquinos you would look here for historical information - rather than using Google lol
