Aint that the truth----have seen this first hand.Any how/why updates about the Embassy chasing down his documents might prove to be useful to other LinC members.

RIP Mr. Higens.

So sad. RIP.

This may not be the correct place to put this but I was also told that I would need an affadavit from direct family to get cremated here. It really not something I would want to ask my sister or daughter to do. Younger people have not yet reached a resolute acceptance of death and find it all shocking that you should ask.

I presume a Filipina wife would be "direct family" and would be able to authorize cremation.  Anyone know for sure?

You may have seen him around town there:

Thank you Billy (Aerosick) for the update and email update a week or so ago. IMO Orey was a nice guy when he was sober, I had some nice conversations with him over the years as well as some weird conversations with him when he must have had a few too many.

RIP Orey, hope you finally got the peace you deserve instead of just being kept alive as long as your account had money to bleed from.

Hopefully this can be a lesson to those of you alone, get your paperwork in order ASAP, and do not die alone in a foreign country.

I know for sure that was the case 10 years ago.  A filipina wife who was married to an American for just over 5 years had her husband shipped off to the crematorium and burned within 3 days.  Didn't even give the friends and overseas family members a chance to say their goodbyes.  Unusual, yes, but another American friend had requested the US embassy to investigate the cause of death.  They refused to do it but it was interesting how that caused the wife to have him cremated so quickly.  Just a coincidence, I'm sure.

Feel free to start another thread about cremation & the paperwork required to get this done.

Orey was a great guy. After reading the thread, it was very sad how he died alone. He was very wealthy here in the US. He had a large inheritance and annuities. Probably blew it all away living in the Philippines, since he apparently died destitute.

I remember when he and Divina divorced, she had been cheating on him. I was married to her younger sister Meriam, who later cheated on me and I divorced her as well. I am now happily married to a Filipina from Leyte. I have been trying to locate Divina or Meriam to inform them of the death of my youngest son whom they knew well.

All the girls in that family turned out to be bad apples it seems. Too bad, they were very beautiful. Orey's wife Divina was model quality beautiful, seriously. I was best man at their wedding in Las Vegas.

We had a falling out, long story. It was because of his wife and her sister. Anyway at one point Divina contacted me and told me that Orey had retired in Philippines and had a new wife or GF, she wasn't sure. She also told me of an incident where Orey had fallen and struck his head on the corner of a sink and was in bad shape from that.

I always admired Orey for grabbing the bull by the horns and fulfilling his lifelong dream of retiring in the Philippines. I too have the same dream.

From reading the comments in the forum, it seemed that he had a lot of friends there. Too bad he did not adequately prepare for the situation he found himself in. This is a very serious lesson to me.

I hope Orey has found peace in God's hands.
