I don't know if they are available here, but kerosene lamps are a much better option than candles.

Any decent-sized provincial hardware store will carry 'petromax' kero lanterns. Sure they're not genuine German Petromax  but same design. They work fine and are really bright.

for now I can not see any wind speed above  125 km/h (left click anywhere on the map)

You're not going to get any serious meteorological data from windy.com. It's just a fun little graphic.

Try going to http://www.typhoon2000.ph and click around on their large collection of links.

You can also access the various models at https://www.tropicaltidbits.com/storminfo/

Even more in depth is the very active http://www.storm2k.org/phpbb2/index.php forum.

I'm seeing 173km/h at the NW eye wall right now on the Earth website. That is 199 mph. Pray that this thing doesn't hit you.

1 knot equals 1.15 mile. 173 knots equals 199 miles. I'm not confusing anything

Kts = Knots

Km/h = kilometers per hour

I originally though that km/h was kilometers per hour, but I was corrected (in this thread) that the wind speeds shown are in knots, not kilometers. So which is it? You guys can't have it both ways.

It just clocked in at 156 knots. This may be what you are thinking of. Knots and kilometers per hour are very different, Please consult Wikipedia.

When I said I was seeing 156 kilometers per hour, Bosshog said he was seeing 156 knots per hour.

Can you and Bosshog please come to an agreement? Now you are telling me it is in kilometers per hour (which makes more sense), but since there is no legend on these interactive maps, there is no way for the average Joe (me) to know whether km/h is kilometers per hour or knot miles per hour. It makes a huge difference in the calculation to miles per hour.

Snide comments are NOT appreciated ... especially from a mod.

Anyways...back to the storm. Wondering when this thing will start gaining latitude. Keeps moving due west. The shift to the NW has gotta be happening sometime soon.
