MickyG 322
This storm has just drawn the low pressure system that was forming off the Visayas into it. At the same time this has pulled the main eye slowly south. I am not so sure the NW turn is going to happen as quick as some think it might. If not it is going to pile into central Luzon maybe over south side of NCR. We have just stocked up on drinking water, rice, eggs etc and will do the normal weekly shop Thursday. Thursday night I will start to fill the emergency water containers for washing us and clothing if needed. Not to self, MUST add candles to Thursday shop. Then on Friday if storm direction is unchanged, get around the outside and start putting tables and chairs etc indoors. MIL flowerpots are coming inside or they will be missiles for the windows. She is already sulking!!

BossHog 38,489
It just clocked in at 156 knots. This may be what you are thinking of. Knots and kilometers per hour are very different, Please consult Wikipedia. 1

It is now reading 159 km/h Edited September 11, 2018 by Headshot

+to_dave007 5,908
156 knots = 289 kph = 179.5 mph = 80 meters/second (for the metric challenged). It's enough to blow out the candles on my birthday cake. Edited September 11, 2018 by to_dave007 1
BossHog 38,489
JMA (the Japs) have just lowered the Friday number to 900 hPa. This is unprecedented and they're a very conservative agency. Tokyo is also the RSMC for this part of the Pacific. If they;re calling for 900 millibars it's gonna be a whopper. One for the books. 1 1
JohnSurrey 544
Raining here in Leyte ... not too much wind - lots of thunder and lightning... looks like we'll catch the tail end of it for the next few days

I don't know if they are available here, but kerosene lamps are a much better option than candles. They burn longer and are safer than candles. We brought a bunch of them with us when we moved here.
