Malibu 45
Official numbers from last night: 4 boys rescued from Thai cave. https://www.thaivisa.com/forum/topic/1047090-first-two-boys-rescued-from-tham-luang-cave Scroll down page for updates
lopburi3 601
Four in hospital (names not released to avoid upsetting other parents) and 9 remain in cave with new rescue to resume at any time. Indeed there was a lot of misinformation yesterday - much by major western news sources. Guardian may not be twitter fast but they at least try to confirm before posting. Their live blog for today is https://www.theguardian.com/world/live/2018/jul/09/thai-cave-rescue-resumes-to-free-eight-boys-and-coach-still-trapped-latest-news

Also politicians after cheap points. Lot of talk, little action. Sorry! - I believe that "TIT" comment is quite unjustified. The Thai management of this rescue certainly appears to me to have been excellent (according to Aus TV reports and pictures - particularly by Aus ABC-TV (who have had first-class reporters on the scene for many days) and from Aus SBS -TV.... both usually very reliable news sources. We have had many hours of live broadcast and expert opinion on this exercise on Aus TV since the affair was first reported. The Thais recognised early, that foreign volunteers (particularly UK cave divers and an Aus Doctor/cave-diver and a bunch of other foreigners ) have far superior skills and dive resources of the kind required for this rescue effort and the the Thais have used those skills wisely. It appears that the Thai administrative/support management has been very well done. None of that "face-saving" we don't need any foreigners help nonsense! The last report I saw at 23:00 AEST (Aus East-Coast time) was that they had rescued another 4 today ( after rescuing 4 yesterday). An impressive effort (taking about 4-5 hours to get each boy out) This, shepherding boys who couldn't swim, had never worn a scuba mask before and were still weak from previous lack of food, through pitch black running water and (in places) very narrow underwater rock channels.... a very skilled, impressive effort! 5 more remain in a cave, waiting for rescue - presumably tomorrow. Oz Jon 2,476
The Thai military has had many of their "seals" divers in the cave system too, improving access, adding facilities and providing essential support to the rescue divers. Some of the more "sensational" news services have been reporting unconfirmed (even unchecked) "rumors", "guesses" "uninformed opinion" and the like .... some deliberate (or maybe grossly incompetent) falsities. badian 192
The BBC is now saying that the rescue operation, is 'British led'. What a laugh - they can come out looking like Russia Today and the Iranian Press TV if they're not careful. I think the recent England soccer World Cup run might be making their copywriters running away with themselves on all the other news stories where a British team is involved too. It's just like Chile and just like I predicted. Everybody is going to try to claim credit for it, but only when it becomes obvious that it will be a favourable outcome. If they were all totally fecked, nobody would be trying to make out that they were in charge. Edited July 9, 2018 by badian
lopburi3 601
Actually the UK divers have had the lead in this from early on as they have the most cave diving experience and have a strong team on site volunteering their services. They found the children and make up a major part of the rescue team getting them out. So for divers they are point - but there are thousands of others doing vital work from many countries including, mostly, Thai. 3
fred42 2,503
Hope they get them out really soon before Monsoon rains predicted.

The rescue method looks correct, but there are many inconsistencies in the details. I don't think this was a real photo - just an artist's impression?
Oz Jon 2,476
Its 20:000 AEST here in Aus and the news is that the 9th person has been rescued. Rescue of the last 5 people has been underway for several hours, involving the same expert UK cave divers who carried out the previous 8 rescues, plus the Aus doctor/cave diver and at least 3 Thai "SEAL" divers who provided close support. Many other Thai divers are also involved. The remaining 4 are expected to emerge from the cave in the next hour or so. The whole exercise has been a triumph of international co-operation and excellent management by the Thai ex-Governor and his Thai team. They had a great deal of international and domestic support on offer and they used it wisely. update at 20:25 AEST a 10th person has been rescued update2 now at 20:30 AEST the 11th person has been rescued update 3 at 22:00 AEST it is confirmed that all 13 have now been rescued Edited July 10, 2018 by Oz Jon updates 2
lopburi3 601
All have exited cave. Headshot 29,353
It is unfortunate that a retired Thai SEAL died during the rescue operation. He had ferried oxygen into the cave, and was on his way back out when he ran out of oxygen and died. https://www.9news.com.au/world/2018/07/09/15/08/thai-cave-rescue-saman-gunan-drowned-seal-divers-wife-feels-dead-but-im-still-alive Edited July 10, 2018 by Headshot 1
