When visiting the UK I forgot to pack my Ipad (3or 4 years old).

My daughter has sent it to me via DHL, and DHL are claiming 3.5K PHP for duty and taxes.

Is this a scam/skin tax or am I liable for these charges?

Any knowledge appreciated.

If you can convince them it came from the Philippines, there should be no duty and tax.

The more you pay for shipping, the more likely you are to have to pay customs charges.

DHL is just passing along the charge from customs. Customs is probably basing the customs fee on the declared value.

Be aware that after three days, DHL will start charging you a storage fee if the package isn't picked up.
