How Many Galaxies Are There?

Recommended Posts

We've been trying to count the galaxies in the universe since the mid '90s, but our estimates change as our tools improve. So what does our current estimate really mean?

Hmm..  Thought just occur to me..  (it happens occasionally).

If light bends under gravitational forces, and if we look to the left and see a galaxy, and look to the right and see a galaxy, is it possible it's the same galaxy we see, but from opposite perspective, and at different ages..  Could that spiral galaxy that appears to be a long way off, actually be very old light from our very own milky way galaxy?

My brain hurts.. Where's my Fruit Loops when I need them.

Mr. Mike

There used to be 43 galaxies, but in 1948 Russia stole one and hid it somewhere....and that's what started the cold war.

Okay guys. This is supposed to be a serious scientific topic.

Enough already with the off topic humor. There are plenty of other forums you can do that in.
