the newbies don't get shot though do they. It's usually just residents.

oh wait. Apart from, in 2017, the Scottish tourist who was shot in Cebu while getting robbed for 10 dollars, and the two young Netherlands tourists who's car was shot up in Negros by leftist terrorists. They were each not long into their first ever visit to the Philippines.

What I meant was plenty more coming to take up residence to become prospective victims.

and that's why this forum with it's local news thread and subsequent discussions is a valuable online information and guide site for both foreigners and Filipinos.  new members can read up on the latest happenings and learn some shared tips and residents can get refreshers on what they previously knew and stay up to date.

the numbers just speak for themselves. It really does seem that as a proportion of the non-natural deaths, the % of murders of Americans is higher in the Philippines, and it is consistently higher too, over many years, than any other country in the world.

Depends on where they take place

Certain areas of Chicago WAAAAAY higher - where I lived  not a single crime above misdemeanor in 25 years.

In the US there are some areas with a very high crime risk (Chicago) but most areas have a very low risk. In the Philippines there are no very low risk areas. You always need to be on your guard.
