Maybe not the best time for a Dipolog visit

Quote

AUTHORITIES alerted policemen especially those manning checkpoints to be on the lookout for seven vehicles associated with extremists fighting government forces in Marawi City. In a memorandum issued by the Maritime group of the Philippine National Police (PNP) in Dapitan City, Zamboanga del Norte dated June 2, authorities have alerted shipping lines for the possible exit of these vehicles via Roll-on/Roll-off (Roro) ships and port terminals. According to the memorandum, the vehicles are believed to be carrying improvised explosive devices (IEDs). Source

There is no information on where these vehicles were going to be deployed and it's possible they will not be leaving Mindanao at all or that these IEDs are part of any current bombing plot. The ports were put on alert as a precaution just in case they make an attempt to leave the island. It's most likely that the IEDs were being relocated to other locations in Mindanao so they would not be recovered by military forces as they retake portions of Marawi. Wherever these vehicles were going at the time, they have long since reached their destinations.

Below is a copy of the memorandum which also gives descriptions of the vehicles as well as the registration numbers.

I wonder how many others are headed to Davao...

The Canadian government has recently issued a strongly worded advisory concerning Mindanao.

I find it odd they make an exception for Davao what with the bombings there. Many places in Mindanao are, to my mind, safer for travel than 'urban' Davao.

I agree that the inclusion of all of Mindanao is a bit to broad as far as saying "avoid all travel". The portion of the island north and east of a line from CDO to Davao is relatively safe compared to the places south and west in which I would agree that westerners should avoid all travel for now. Places like Butuan and Surigao for example are much safer than urban Davao City in regards to terrorist threats, even more so now since the recent arrest of Cayamora and Norjannah Maute.
