why so few Filipino restaurants

Recommended Posts

I used to joke that a Filipino's perfect meal is to take a hunk of fat, fry it, then eat it with rice.

I tend to agree with USMC. The culture of the Philippines is borrowed from other cultures. This can be seen in their fashion, architecture, language, and -yes, food.

Ask 1000 well-traveled westerners to name a Filipino dish and you'll get 500 "Mmmmmm, chicken adobo" and 500 "Ewwww, balut".

There just aren't enough uniquely Filipino dishes to populate a restaurant. Even the traditional fare tends to be: take a piece of meat - cook it, dig in.

The vast majority of Filipinos that I know cook a mix of chinese, korean, and very plain foods that can't really be attributed to any individual culture.
