Hi Guys, I wanted to share our experience on our stay in Moalboal. My girlfriend and me wanted chill and explore the underwater life of that beautiful area. We rented one of these semi-automatic xrm honda to move around. On Sunday, 7PM, we left the resort to have our dinner somewhere else. There's a few minutes dirt road from the resort to the main road, which certainly is really dark at night. At some point of the ride I noticed a thin metal wire crossing the dirt road at the height of neck. I came to a short stop and thank god for few inches nothing happen to us. At that very moment another bike was coming the opposite way, we made him signals to stop. He was a local and could talk a bit with my girlfriend about the issue when suddenly somebody started to throw us stones from darkness, one did hit my front wheel. We bow our head, passed the wire and drove far from there, the other driver in the opposite direction. I was so nervious I could barely hold well the handlebar. When we almost arrived the main road we stopped a bike driver with an older woman as customer and advised them of the situation. They kindly headed us to the barangay captain house. We explained him the situation but he seemed sleepy and said it was his day off, so we should go and report to police station. He explained it was not the first time that happened and that there seems to be jealously issues between some of the resorts and the land ownership. His son drove a bike and show us the way to police station. There my girl reported the issue and a police car escorted us back to the resort. At the point where the issue happened there was around 15 locals and the other bike driver who was also attacked, he was very thankful we did stop him. He did show the wire to police. Later at the resort, the owner personified and explained us it did happen before in other resort road but not in theirs, she seemed really pissed off and said they will caught who did it and put in jail... I'm not going to name resorts here but I would recommend you guys to be careful if you plan to drive in those dark areas. I arrived Philippines on November 2012 and didn't had any issues so far until now. We are affected, specially my girl who couldn't sleep for two nights.
tommax posted a topic in News, Headlines & World Events3 kidnappers killed in Davao; businesswoman rescued Thursday, July 11, 2013 DAVAO CITY -- Three members of a kidnap-for-ransom group operating in Metro Manila were killed, while one was captured after a shootout with police around 11 a.m. Thursday (July 11) on C.M. Recto St., this city. The identities of the suspects are yet to be confirmed, but they held hostage Thursday Sally Chua, a 51-year-old businesswoman from Quezon City. Chua was rescued by police authorities. Davao City Police Office (DCPO) Director Ronald dela Rosa told reporters that Chua was kidnapped last July 5 in Del Monte, Quezon City. The victim was able to convince her kidnappers that the ransom money could only be withdrawn in Davao City. The suspects and the victim then agreed to make the payoff of P15 million in this city, as apparently the latter thought that the criminals won't be able to escape if they make the transaction here. The victim and her abductors, onboard three Mitsubishi Montero, left Manila on July 5 on their way to Davao City. Around 11 a.m. Thursday, the suspects and the victim arrived here and proceeded to an Allied Bank branch on C.M. Recto St. to make the payoff. The suspects, however, were cornered at the parking space of the said bank. A shootout ensued between the kidnappers and the responding Special Weapons and Tactics (Swat) teams and officers of the Philippine Anti-Carnapping and Emergency Response (Pacer) Team from Manila and DCPO. Two suspects were killed inside a white Mitsubishi Montero SUV, while one was rushed to the Southern Philippines Medical Center (SPMC) but was declared dead on arrival by attending physicians. The victim, meanwhile, was rescued by police officers inside the bank, while the suspect escorting the victim was arrested. Recovered from the crime scene were assorted high-powered firearms and handguns, assorted personal belongings, black wallet, a P1,0000 bill, a photocopy of official receipt and certificate of registration Land Transportation Office (LTO), two Nokia mobile phones, one box of mangosteen, one box of pomelo and a Philippine Airlines ticket booked under the name of the victim. But Dela Rosa said 10 other accomplices of the kidnappers managed to escape before their operation onboard two other brand new white Mitsubishi Montero SUVs with one having a plate number I-FBI-1238. "Total lockdown karon ang Davao City. Nagpabutang na ko ug mobile checkpoints sa exit points sa Davao City, (Davao City is in total lockdown. We have placed mobile checkpoints in all exit points in Davao City,)" Dela Rosa said. Police Regional Office (PRO) Director Jaime Morente, who also responded to the crime scene, said: "Naalert ko na din ang ating kapulisan in the region na magconduct din ng checkpoint para makasiguro na kung makalabas man sila ng Davao City, hindi sila makakalabas ng Davao Region, (I have also alerted the police officers in the region to conduct a checkpoint to make sure that if they manage to get out of Davao City, they still won't be going out of Davao Region.)" The victim is now under the custody of DCPO while the arrested suspect is undergoing interrogation.
