  1. The former MMDA chairman wants "shake drills" to be institutionalized to prepare for earthquakes. I thought shake drills was the dancing the kids learn in school. It does prepare them for one or two things. Senatorial candidate and former Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) chairman Francis Tolentino called on Congress yesterday to craft a law that would institutionalize the conduct of “shake drills” nationwide. He made the call after a magnitude 5.4 earthquake was felt at 9:51 p.m. Monday with its epicenter located northeast of Looc, Occidental Mindoro. Tolentino said “shake drills” are important to prepare the public on what to do during strong earthquakes, minimizing deaths and injuries. “Shake drills should be institutionalized nationwide via legislation to allow full participation of the public, including workers without diminution of wages,” said Tolentino, pointing out such a move would promote a culture of preparedness among the Filipino people. During his tenure at the MMDA, Tolentino, with the cooperation of the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology initiated “shake drills” not only in schools but also in commercial centers to prepare the public should a magnitude-7.2 tremor hit the metropolis. Tolentino promised to push for the creation of a Philippine Recovery and Rehabilitation Agency that would help rebuild schools, barangays and public markets every time the country is devastated by an earthquake or typhoon. 2. Not sure if anyone else has seen these, or not. So, here they are. More to come.
  3. Like the topic title says. I went to the office this morning, and it was apparently being inspected by safety officials. I was told it would be open for business as usual on Friday. Anybody heard any different?
