What’s next for Philippine labour law? by HRD 11 May 2017: http://www.hrdmag.com.sg/news/whats-next-for-philippine-labour-law-236233.aspx Although Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte is widely known for his harsh stance against illegal drugs, he has also placed labour issues among his administration’s top concerns. Even before taking his oath of office, Duterte said he will seek to end contractualization – a practice where workers are hired for a fixed period. Labour groups say the practice leaves workers vulnerable to abuse. Employers could keep on hiring the

The Philippines like many third world countries has big challenges including corruption, poor infrastructure and out of control population growth. There is though another issue and a big reason it may lose in the global economy. It is all about Face. It is not the smiling happy faces that welcome visitors. It is the Face or fear of losing it that resists any kind of advice that says things are not being done properly. It is the face that does not want foreign experts because they think they can do it themselves. It is the face that only allows foreign investors to own 40%

Your thoughts on going into business with Filipinos
JonnyBravo posted a topic in Living In The Philippines
I'm in a unique situation where if I wanted to I could become silent partners with my wife's family business. They are in the in the pastry and bread business. Before you conclude that their business is ran out of garage or something I can assure you it's not, in fact I would dare to say that those of you living in Cebu and other areas of the Philippines you probably have been to one of their chains. The family is nice and I feel I could trust them. Now I know I wouldn't claim this business and it would be under my wife, so I kinda know the risks if my wife and I relationship went south but to -

So here is the deal. I have read many posts here about starting a business. I can tell many are just spreading things they have heard and at best own a sari-sari. There has been some good advice but it gets lost sometimes in the crowd. I have decided to write this starters guide to mainly deal with the big problem issues. The information contained below is based on my own substantial experience here which I am sure is different then others. I hope it is beneficial, now lets get started. The first thing we need to talk about is corruption. It is very real and the higher you go o

Hi everyone, This is a complicated thread and hope someone will help me. I had a friend who wanted to set up a business and put 5 persons names on it ( i dont know if it was a cooperative or partnership business). He told me that he wanted to include my name on his business but i declined since he is a lousy business man. He told me that he only need my signature. So my question is, is it that easy to include a person's name on a business with just a signature ? Thank you very much for your reading!

Grey_O_Wolf posted a topic in Buying & Building Homes, Rental Property, Land, Etc.
Currently, I am looking for a suitable location to open a new Therapeutic Massage Spa. I am browsing a number of online sources, but maybe some members may see something posted locally. Some of the requirements are good location, reasonable price to rent or purchase, possibly good terms on a purchase, adequate size of the building, easy customer access, sufficient business traffic, residential accommodations and close proximity to services. Additionally, the location must have Internet, telephone, Cable, Power and water or at the very least capable of adding as required. Currently we are l- 29 replies

How to work for myself legally
spydoo posted a topic in Passports, Visas, Permits & Immigration Information
I'm interested in how I can work for myself legally. I work online (webdev and SEO) but will also be communicating with customers abroad and marketing to potential customers by VOIP (mainly in Australia, possibly US). Other people do this sort of thing under the radar, but I'm interested in dotting my i's and crossing my t's. One reason is that I would like to work in a call center, so more publicly than most. Another is that want to employ locals; also that I don't want to risk the consequences of getting busted working illegally. From what I've learned elsewhere, one of my options i- 3 replies
