  1. Has anybody installed glass and stainless steel balustrade? How much is supply and install per linear meter? Regards Rik
  2. I am not sure if this will be a good topic or not but it can be with some participation. I though of a idea for cheap roofing many years ago but never tried it but a while back I saw it done online. I think it is a great idea especially now somebody has done it. Enjoy this picture of alternative roofing. Regards Rik
  3. Has anybody on this forum used Epoxy Resin in their homes instead of tiles? I know what your thinking lol here comes Rik with another crazy brain idea hehehehe.
  4. Our windows are getting installed. Manilla Glass, Maasin City, Southern Leyte are the suppliers and installers. Black aluminum frames and 1/4 inch thick tinted glass.
  5. As promised I am starting a a new topic on building a house in Philippines. I will not post everyday but as I have time. I will do my best to answer all your questions. This will take a while as this is the 3rd year of construction and I will go through every stage bit by bit. So please try not to ask questions about subjects not covered yet. It will be too confusing jumping ahead then back again. First we demolished the old house on the block. none of the structure was usable as it was of sub quality. We got some feedback from upset locals saying "why knock down a perfectly good house" I just could not fix up or use any of what was already there.
  6. A question for those who have brought steel decking for use with suspended slabs in Cebu before. Do they cut the steel decking to the required lengths or do they have set lengths in stock? Rik
  7. Hello everyone, I am looking for steel decking to pour my second floor slab on. Maybe one of you has searched out the best supplier already. I would need it shipped to Maasin city Southern Leyte. We could not make it in 2013 but will certainly go this year. I want my carpenter to lay the slab so I can start the walls when I get there. Thanks +*************
  8. I start this with the post as a follow on to " they keep telling me its cheaper to live in the Phills" I enjoyed much of thiat thread but found some of the replies were destructive rather than constructive. This really isa a Great subject and providing we are subjective it can be very interesting. I have lived in several countries, including the UK, Austalia, New Zealand and Indonesia. All have benefits and it really depends on individual taste, example...... when i first left the UK, boy i missed the sense of humour, the Pub and the soccer ! When i lived in NZ, i loved the country side, the friendly people and the lay back attitude, but way behind the times in many things, i was glad to leave . When i lived in OZ, I thought it the best countryy in the world ! But, things change and so do we.......... Who worried about health when we were 21 ? we were supermen Who cared about suicide bombers ? kidnapping ? etc. ... our major concern was getting a f**** on a saturday night ! For years when i had visitors to my place in OZ the subject of comparitive costs and benefits was always discussed at length, depending on the visitor and their own personal circumstances things were always cheaper or dearer.bigger or smaller etc....comparisons were extremely difficult, I mean if you did not smoke, drink and were gay.... perhaps the Philippines would not be such a good place to live ? We developed a fun formula , and by being clinical and honestly taking out the personality factors ( hard i know ) lifestyle comparsions could be made which were meaningful. example take ten items used by or consumed by a family of 2 adults and one child.for one month. Rent or mortgage Electricity Vehicle and Fuel Beer Cigarettes Meat ( lump of steak, pieces of chicken, does not matter ) Vegetables ( any three common ones ) Fruit ( any three common ones) Entertainment ( can be TV, basic eat out places, cinema , ) Hobbies and Travel Work out the average wage per country ( not the million dollars you may heve been on at your work , but the average) then for each of the ten items, work out the percentage of one months wage for each item, to give one months total costs For those on pensions or private incomes, percentages are easy to work out For the Emotional stuff..... "we miss home, we miss family,we miss the snow etc..".... it is really a waste of time making any comparsons. Perhaps we can come up with a standard list, agreed to by consensus, here on this forum ? once we agree to the basic items to be included, we can look at pensions paid by the major western countries, we can then look at costs in Asian and Western countries by comparing. e.g UK USA CANADA AUSTRALIA OTHER PHILIPPINES CAMBODIA THAILAND VIETNAM INDONESIA OTHER Any supprt for this ? , we can perhaps add some items to a maximum of say 20, but keep it "workable" and enjoyable , see where it leads let me know
  9. Why you might ask? Well, I have two lots a few hundred yards from the ocean, both next to family. Nice spots. Except for me it is much cooler by the ocean. I also have a beach lot. So, here is the problem. Nice little beach lot, tried to put a decorative bamboo fence around it a while back with the next plan to build a beach cottage and some how it just vanished before we had the chance to build the cottage , I mean every stick!!!! We have no family near the beach lot. So, I was thinking of building a bamboo rv cottage, say four meters by seven meters on some type of trailer. So, when I go there I could just pull it over to the beach lot, stay a few weeks and when done pull it back over and park it next to my brother in laws house and leave it there till I need it again? I have a bunch of stuff at the brother in law's and never had a problem. If I build a permanent beach cottage on the beach lot then I have to hire someone to live in it to protect it from some how vanishing. We just want something simple that we can stay in for a few weeks in the winter, kind of like camping. Have been to the Philippines many times, tried to move there in 04 but that failed, so just plan on visiting now. Any feed back is greatly appreciated. W.T.
