  2. This should not surprise anyone on this forum but I thought I would share. http://www.gmanetwork.com/news/story/489762/scitech/technology/list-philippines-ranks-21st-of-22-asian-countries-in-internet-download-speed Only Afghanistan which has been war-torn for years had slower internet download speeds compared to the Philippines. Even Cambodia and Vietnam are over twice as fast. And the Philippines ranked 176th out of 202 countries worldwide when it came to internet download speeds.
  3. The consortium handling the modernization and expansion of the Mactan-Cebu International Airport (MCIA) plans to undertake more improvements at the airport, which has been named among the 30 best airports in Asia. A survey conducted by travel website The Guide to Sleeping in Airports showed the MCIA at 18th spot in the list of the 30 best airports in Asia. “This is just the beginning. This ranking motivates us to work even harder in making MCIA one of the best airports in the world,” GMR-Megawide Cebu Airport Corp. (GMCAC) president Louie Ferrer said in a statement. He said getting the 1
  4. I hear some of you say "Philippines isn't for everybody." Sure, everyone has their own cup of tea but what makes Cebu special to you? What makes it not so special? As for me I've only had the privilege of visiting Cebu twice. For me the traffic was crazy but I wasn't in a hurry so to be honest: as bad as that was it didn't bother me. I didn't find anything I didn't like. My experience was good. But there is a difference between vacationing in Cebu and living in Cebu. My likes there is the culture. They are family orientated people and alway find the time for family and friends. Everyo
  5. Got a pretty bad case of food poisoning from Pizza Republic @ Cebu I.T. Park, ate there the evening of Thursday, Dec. 18th. 2014. 100% Certain it was due to -their- food as the S.O. was also affected. Was down for the count badly suffering three fully lost unproductive days, fever from 102-104 degrees F, terrible night sweats, shaking, chills, and of course all the other fun symptoms of food poisoning. Had my first visit and introduction to Chong Hua Hospital, which was quite impressive. Staff there was great. Can't say the same for Pizza Republic. Eat at your own risk.
  6. Today I woke up early in the morning by the siren of fire trucks. Noticed a reddish light coming from the window, this is what I saw... Poor people. I'd say around 12 squatters got totally burnt. Surprisingly for me, at least 9 fire trucks went there to help.
  7. MAYOR Democrito Diamante of Tuburan, Cebu questioned on Monday the payment for a bridge project in his town when there is no new bridge in sight. He said the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has paid the contractor, WTG Construction 70 percent of the P35.4-million Suba Bridge project in Barangay Suba when the accomplishment has hardly reached 15 percent. More here: http://www.sunstar.com.ph/cebu/local-news/2014/08/12/bridge-not-there-359242
  8. Greetings Folks: I think I am safe posting this here since I am not selling but looking. If I am wrong please remove and accept my apologize. I really need a heavy duty wide load (about 28 inch wide seat at least) But if I can get a regular adult wheelchair that I can take the arm rests off of I think I can make due since I can use it as a walker then sit in it only when I need to which is about every 20 feet or so... I am looking for a used one for several reasons..... 1. I can't afford a new one. 2. If it is used I may be able to cut or add to for support if I have to... 3
  9. If I might ask those who rent House, Apt., or Room in Cebu a couple of questions: 1. Do you depend ONLY on Retirement, SS or SSDI? 2. How much do you pay for rent? (don't have to be exact, but about) 3. What "area" are you in (Mendaue, Lapu-Lapu, NOT EXACT) 4. Do you have private yard to keep your dog safe? 5. Is your rental ground level only or up and down? I am asking to try to decide were to look for a cheaper rental for me, my wife and dog. Thanks....

    Mayor found Guilty

A division of the antigraft court Sandiganbayan has found a mayor and seven other officials of a town in Cebu province guilty of graft for the purchase of P1.1 million in construction materials using public funds without bidding. The first division of the Sandiganbayan also sentenced Mayor Cynthia Moreno of Aloguinsan town and the seven other officials to a prison term of six to 10 years and ordered them perpetually barred from holding public office. Aside from Moreno, convicted and sentenced were municipal civil registrar Pepito Manguilimotan, municipal budget officer Nonela Villegas,
  11. This is a subject I have not found in this forum yet....so here goes.... My U.S. Pass Port Expired Nov. 2013 - I renewed it before expiration. I am Permanent Resident 13a (spouse) all Philippine stamps are current and up date AND LEGAL..... But they are all in my expired Pass Port....No stamps at all in my New Pass Port since I haven't left the country since I got here in 2004. 13. Greetings: I have a question about Health Insurance...This is one reason I decided to join a forum so that I can ask questions like this and 'hopefully' get an honest non-judgmental ANSWER ONLY to the question I ask... I have accepted the consequences of living here on such low fixed income so if you can just accept that and give me an honest answer I will be thankful. I have been told that Phil-Health would be the best, however I have a lot of pre-existings. This would be for my wife and I (No Children).... Anyone know the costs now? Where is the office (Cebu) I have nev
  14. Ok, another question about Health/Medical Insurance here in Philippines It appears Phil Health is the cheapest basic but here is what I am hearing and reading from other expats and the Philippine News sources on Internet. I am hearing the Phil health is starting to blame all illnesses on the patients pre existing (no matter what) unless of course it is something obviously different. For example I have had 2 strokes since 2002, so if I go in not feeling well or sick they are going to say "well we have to investigate as your illness may be due to one of your strokes. Now I have a

  17. Hi all and happy new year to everyone! So the time has come to prepare for my next trip :-) I arrive into Manila on the 25th January and I plan to be there for 4-5 days seeing some friends, eating lots of Adobo and sightseeing. Then I'll be going to Cebu for the first time. I'm hoping to be there for 2-3 nights depending on what there is to do. I've been on a few websites so know of a few things to go and see but I didn't find out that much. Any top suggestions? I would like to get a local feel of the place. I'll be travelling alone and hoping to meet some people as it does get lo
  18. What are the pros an cons. I've been to Cebu but never Cambodia. I have read the Cambodia forum but would just like to know the views of Visayas expats.

  21. Currently, I am looking for a suitable location to open a new Therapeutic Massage Spa. I am browsing a number of online sources, but maybe some members may see something posted locally. Some of the requirements are good location, reasonable price to rent or purchase, possibly good terms on a purchase, adequate size of the building, easy customer access, sufficient business traffic, residential accommodations and close proximity to services. Additionally, the location must have Internet, telephone, Cable, Power and water or at the very least capable of adding as required. Currently we are l

I didn't have a chance to go my many times before in Cebu. Let me know the days, rates, etc. per person for the deep sea fishing trips. Thanks.

  24. Hi All, How's everyone doing? I just moved here from Manila and wish to know if what type of jobs are available to most here in Cebu. I've checked out some websites and it seems that most jobs are through those call centers. Any idea on how much they pay? Thanks in advance!
