    Citizenship?

"I hereby declare, on oath, that I absolutely and entirely renounce and abjure all allegiance and fidelity to any foreign prince, potentate, state, or sovereignty of whom or which I have heretofore been a subject or citizen; that I will support and defend the Constitution and laws of the United States of America ..."

I don't think the US does either. It's just the PI that says if you acquire another citz, you lose RP citz and therefore have to take another oath to get it back. But really, it's the $50 they want. The kids might be ok though being born with both.

Another positive factor for you is that Canada does not require one to give up their native citizenship to become a Canadian citizen, unlike the US and many other countries. Theoretically then a Filipino becoming a Canadian never gave up his Philippine citizenship, so no need to reacquire it. BI does not always seem to listen to my theories, though, so best to see what they have to say.

    Citizenship?

I THINK (yes.. it's fuzzy) that possibly Shadow and Maximian may BOTH be right. I THINK (again fuzzy) that the difference is between obtaining foreign (non PI) citizenship by NATURALIZATION (with oath taking) and BIRTH (by being born of foreign parent). But I won't take a chance. It some point.. not yet.. I'll go ask. The GOOD NEWS is that BOTH Canada and PI allow dual citizenship.. so the worst that can happen is that I need to do some annoying PI paperwork that I didn't expect before today. And I'd rather get it done while the boys are still young.. and I'm still around. Plus.. I'm retired.. Got to have something to do.

A Philippine passport requires the applicant to indicate any other nationality. If naturalized, then the RA 9225 comes into play. https://consular.dfa.gov.ph/images/2017/consularforms/New_Application_Adult01.pdf

Shadow if you look again i was answering Dave 007 question about his kids who were born and still living in the Philippines. In a separate message i asked David what passport his kid used when leaving the Philippines. That makes sense. My youngest kid is 21, so they would have run into it by now haha.

How to pay for "big ticket" items

are you saying that no one else you ever dealt with was able to get you a Title ? I do it myself most of the time and have never had a problem. I bought 2 condos in Cebu from a Norwegian . No attorneys were involved. No fixers were involved. I got the titles no problem. I sold the same condos to a Dane. Same thing- no attorneys or fixers involved. And the titles were produced. The people in BIR and the Tax office and the ROD were all very helpful. I have on occasion used fixers to handle all the documentation and obtain the Titles just because it takes several hours over several days to get everything . The cost has ranged between 3000 and 7000 per deal . The one part I did do is that I went with the fixer to the bank [ I believe in Cebu it has to be China Bank- in Davao its Land Bank] and personally paid the cash for the managers check [ for the BIR ] .

The question was, are his kids dual citizen. The answer is, no, not until they take the oath and apply for re-acquisition under RA9225. They lost Philippine citizenship when they became citizens of Australia. One day, they might very well get asked for their certificate. A friend of mine, born and raised in the Philippines, lived in California for about 20 years, and gained citizenship, and moved back to the Philippines. All was fine until one day it wasn't. When applying to renew his Philippines passport, it became apparent that he had gained US citizenship. They refused to renew his Philippine passport until he applied to reacquire his Philippine citizenship through RA9225, and bring his certificate. All will be fine, until one day, your kids are likely to run into this too.

Daves kids do not need a certificate a certificate of citizenship retention. Read his question again. My kids do not have any claim slips or certificates saying they are dual citizens. Read again please Ian before making sarcastic comments!

As is done in Canada. However- its not quite so easy here I'm afraid. I had a recurring fraudulent charge being applied to my BDO account monthly . I told them it was fraud. They still let 3 more months of charges go through . I accused BDO in writing several times of being complicit in the fraud since they knew it was fraud and still allowed the charges to proceed. It took about 20-25 messages and emails to BDO and 4 months for them to finally reverse the charges And if a person cant prove fraud Dave - how much harder will it be for them ?

Yes, there is a certificate of citizenship retention. Everyone who has obtained dual citizenship through RA9225 should have been issued one. http://immigration.gov.ph/services/citizenship-retention-and-aquisition/application-for-retention-re-acquisition-of-phil-citizenship

Dave there is no certificate. I have four dual national kids who were born here and they acquired and renew their passports the same way as any other Filipino.

Have you tried this? One of the documents I read earlier seemed to suggest a Certificate of Dual Citizenship.. and we will ask.. but right now it doesn't seem like much of an issue either way.

If you child was born in the Philippines what passport did he/she use to leave the Philippines? If it Australian they would have been subject to immigration laws?

Dave your kids are Philippine citizens. When you apply for their passports its the same process as any other Filipino. Them having Canadian passports makes no difference. The Philippines will not issue them a certificate of dual citizenship.

Well, friend, I could not have written a better review, except to say that your experience matches mine. I could add a few more remarks, but the reality is they have gone under. My recommendation is also to seek refund to your cc, but you must have copies of any email correspondence along with your ticket reference number, etc. It is important to establish that you have submitted to them your signed refund forms, and their delay for recompense. I have submitted my information to my bank and they forwarded it onto Visa. This is the only way you will ever recover your funds. Good luck.

Just thought I would drop by and say hi (finally remembered my login  )
Just a quick update and to report that rumors of my demise have been grossly exagerated.
While I will never be back to 100%, I am doing quite nicely, or better than expected
There are several things I am not able to do and one is to fly for more than about 4 hours due to cabin pressure, and that really pisses me of as the Philippines has been close to me for nearly 50 years.
The other is I can no longer play the piano, which was my means of relaxation and stress relieving.
I strongly believe that being active, in good health and reasonably fit has enabled me to get back this far.
BTW, I am 82 in a few months and going better than many younger than me.
      Cheers and Keep safe guys
      Ken
