    The Lighter Side of Coronavirus

  5. Damn! Am I the only old, fat guy here who hasn't had a stroke or heart attack...
  6. Just before the lockdown, we finished the perimeter wall and about the same time I finished welding the back gate together for it. After lockdown I was looking for things to do so I installed the gate opener and got it working about 95% the way I want it. It runs off two motorcycle batteries in the gray box there that are recharged by the solar panel above. The panel is much larger than needed but it was the smallest I had available. I think it's maybe 120W? and the company that sold me the opener, etc. recommended 30W or so. One problem was the opener required 35V for the recharging ckt and the panel puts out only 17V so I bought a step up transformer on Lazada which is also contained in the grey box. Seems to be working well. My caretaker's grandkids run out to watch when I'm leaving. And when I get deliveries the drivers are looking around for who opened the gate. That gave us a way to go out if we need to and in the lockdown that wouldn't be much so I decided this would be a good time to cement our driveway. We had 12 sacks of cement left over from the wall I didn't want to waste so I got started welding up a grill for the rain gutter at the bottom of the driveway. That took me longer than it should but after it was done we started on it. The 12 bags didn't go as far as I wanted but I was able to get more cement and rebar delivered. In a day or two it will be ready to drive on. I decided I liked the look of the 2 cement sidewalks rather than a fully paved road and since the walls and the pump house make you drive only in the middle, paving across was a waste of material anyway. The gaps will be filled with dirt and then grass grown in the middle and maybe flowers along the edges or just grass. So that's what I've been doing and why I haven't been posting a lot. Next up is a real septic system and replumbing our current house to it. That will also be the septic for the new house. The current system is just a leach well and it's in the middle of where the new house will be. Not looking forward to digging into that but it's been sufficient for the 2 of us for like almost 10 years. Hahahahaha

  8. Down in Carcar City the PHLPOST is open - but no mail sent or received since mid March. I wish I had a job like that!
  9. Starting March 19, 2020 RAO Cebu was closed until further notice. Keep safe everyone
  10. Speaking of deliveries and RAO, I'm assuming RAO has been closed for the duration of this quarantine and no deliveries from Manila have been coming in? I have all my meds that I'm going to run out of in about 1.5 week if I don't get them from RAO. Anyone know what's going on with them? My wife has called both Ronnie and the number in their office and there's never an answer.
  11. I can not verify this, but rumor has it the pigeon had information about a coo. (ok...ok... my apologies).
  12. Sorry, but it knows too much.
  13. We had rats in the attic at the place we rented before moving in here. Actual rats. I saw them running across the power lines to the roof. When they had sex up there they sounded much larger, like monkeys or something. I through some poison up there and it quieted down a while but luckily the smell didn't come down into the house. The new house won't have that problem as the power will come underground into the garage. I'll post some pictures of the design when I get the roof finished and the septic on there.
  14. Phil at rao sent me a package thru lalamore from his base in mactan to me in talisay but i had to drive into cebu to receive it so still the usual confusion. But i still am very thankful to phil and rao for taking the time to care

  17. @Salty Dog In case no one else has yet said it, you’re doing a cracking job with these advisories. Thank you.
  18. I’m still waiting on a UPS package that arrived in Manila on May 13. Every few days I get an “exception” email which corresponds to a tracking entry that simply says “rescheduled for delivery”. My sister, who sent the package, called UPS. After some considerable hold time UPS suggested I go pick it up!😀 Sure. It’s only 200 miles with no flights and no passenger ferries. The last UPS package sent was handed to Air21 in Manila (local agent) so it looks like they’re having issues getting stuff to Masbate. I checked the LBCExpress website yesterday. They also don’t seem to promise anything for here.
  19. I had a stroke here in Cebu in 2018. My symptoms began with overall weakness and blurred vision. It felt very similar to being drunk and I couldn't keep balanced to walk on my own. I couldn't form any words when asked questions. Wife got me to ER at Chong Hua ASAP where they examined me, couldn't get any answers out of me so sent me immediately in for a CT scan. I began having seizures and blacking out is the last I remember for a couple of days. Finally I became coherent enough after 2 days I could talk and tell where I was. They had me in ICU for 5 days followed by another 7 in a normal room. The after effects I had was poor control over my right side and uncontrolled twitches and movements. I had a lot of memory loss including facial recognition problems for a while. All that cleared up except some of the memory appears to be permanently wiped. Like Headshot, I don't remember the things I've forgot about unless someone brings up something where there are memory holes then I realize there are blanks about what they're talking about. The biggest life changes I've experienced because of this is, now I'm epileptic and my concentration level has been reduced to that of a gnat.
  20. Pakistani villager urges India to return 'spy' pigeon A Pakistani villager has urged Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi to return his pigeon, currently being held in India on charges of spying. The man, who lives just 4km (2.5 miles) from the border, said he flew his pigeons to celebrate Eid festival. Police said the pigeon had a ring on one of its legs, inscribed with a code that they were trying to decipher. The Pakistani villager, who claims the arrested pigeon is his, says the code is actually his mobile phone number. Pakistan's Dawn newspaper has identified the man as Habibullah and reports that he owns a dozen pigeons. Habibullah told the paper that his pigeon was a "symbol of peace"and India should "refrain from victimising innocent birds". Villagers captured the bird on Monday along the international border in Indian-administered Kashmir and handed it over to the police. The Kashmir region is claimed by both India and Pakistan, and is the scene of regular military exchanges between the nuclear-armed neighbours. This is not the first time a pigeon flying from Pakistan has landed in trouble with Indian officials. In May 2015, a white pigeon was arrested after it was spotted by a 14-year-old boy in a village close to the border. And in October 2016, another pigeon was taken into custody after it was found with a note threatening the Indian prime minister. The two nations have been rivals for a long time, with the last full war between them taking place in 1971. https://www.yahoo.com/news/pakistani-villager-urges-india-return-115659737.html
  21. I'm worried about my MIL in Mandaue. Her health is not so good and if she was to pass my wife would not be able to get a flight from here (Dallas) to Cebu. Mother and daughter ties are strong and if the worst happened and wifey could not go then I supposed we will have to deal with it but it would make a bad situation worse I think. Thanks China. /sarc. My BIL has pigs outside of Mandaue but cannot go there to take care of them. He has someone local look after them. The balikbayan box we sent to Mom and Dad in Mandaue finally arrived a couple weeks ago. Was significant delay but it made it. Lockdown is being slowly lifted here. Some bare spots in Kroger and Walmart with certain inventory but most stuff still on the shelves. Plexiglas shields are up everywhere at checkout counters. Both wifey and I have been working through the lockdown being deemed essential business (semiconductor manufacturing). The ones able to work from home are required to do so, now extended yet again to June 15. Everyone is required to wear a mask when entering the building and the company will give you one. There was one case of covid in the building so far but that was two months ago. Two way traffic out of the building was suspended, now one entrance and two exits. When entering we are scanned thermally for elevated body temp. Sure sucks as I really did want to come visit the family in the Philippines this year. Sure had a blast last time. I'm 62 in July. Sure am ready to hang out in Mandaue but wifey wants to wait a couple more years. Looks like we kinda have to.
  22. Mr Deakin bn lucky not arrest the time he was here in Cebu, he was already crazy and active that time. The problem was to get all evidence even we know what he doing.
