(Update) After 'Princess,' ship-cargo vessel smashup reported off Camotes Island

06/28/2008 | 06:22 AM

MANILA, Philippines - A passenger ship and cargo vessel figured in a collision off Camotes Island in Cebu early Saturday, a coastguard official said.

The accident happened nearly a week after the MV Princess of the Stars tragedy off Sibuyan, Island, Romblon province.

DZBB reported the passenger boat was en route to Ormoc City from Cebu when the smashup occurred.

Cebu coastguard official Jerry Niebre said early Saturday that MV "Wonderful Star" and MCC Sulu cargo were involved in the accident.

Niebre said they are still waiting for details of the incident, noting that neither casualties nor major damage to both vessels were reported.

He added that the cargo ship was bound for Cebu from Manila. - GMANews.TV

Given that there are clear rules regarding ships in close proximity, I really cant understand why there are so many collisions.

Dont they have anyone on watch, or in charge?
