577 posts in this topic

A Canadian citizen was killed in Surigao City this evening. The victim named Harry Doyle, age 62 who resided at km.6, Barangay Bonifacio; a resident of 849 Uninon St. Fredericton, NB, Canada was shot around 4pm this evening at the Palma Resort in Punta Bilar, Surigao City. He was at a beach resort attending a family picnic with his wife and son when he was shot with a yet undetermined short firearm. He received 5 shots to the body, While they were having the family picnic two men approached Harry one 5' 3'', medium build waring a black jacket and a black bonnet asking for either food or money. Harry pushed the man away and then got into a scuffle pushing him away; when he pulled out a weapon and open fire shooting Harry 5 times. the other man 5" 6"", medium build with his face covered by a black handkerchief and also waring a black jacket also fled the scene of the crime after the shooting. Harry received five wounds (1) shot to the right thigh, (1) on his upper right chest, (1) to the upper belly, and (2) on his left thigh. When the police arrived he was bathed in his on blood and had already expired. The shooting was witnessed by his wife, son and by over 30 witnesses who were at the beach. I do not believe his bodyguard was present during the time of the shooting The investigators found no slug or shell casings at the scene. Currently the police have no suspects. Harry Doyle was transferred to NILO Funeral Homes , Km. 3, Brgy. Luna, Surigao City awaiting a PNP Crime Laboratory autopsy. The PNP are presently conducting a continuous investigation for possible motive identification of the perpetrators.

I talked to investigators today myself, many who knew and liked Harry Doyle, and I trust that the local PNP will conduct a rigorous investigation and I have faith in their abilities to do so. The Canadian Embassy is also informed and has requested the current known information of this case, which was collected and forwarded to them by our President of the Surigao City Expat Association. If any members have any useful information pertaining to a possible motive or any other useful information than please PM or email me and I will turn this information over to the proper local PNP investigators.
Or please contact Investigator on Case SPO1 Rosemarie E. Almazan or PO2 Mark Anthony Miole - 09187261390 / 09999984933

Harry Doyle was a regular visitor to Cebu and even held a residence there, so I am sure there are members of the forum who knew the man. Harry was also a former member of the forum in the past. He is survived by his wife Jane Doyle and their son..

I will update information as it becomes available after the autopsy and further investigation are completed.

I know nothing about this man. However I do notice that in the comment attributed to him he says : the government butchered ,raped, and used a backhoe to bury the bodies on nov 23,2009 57 humans;

This is the first time that I have ever seen anyone, foreigner or filipino, claim that it was the government that committed the killings. Everyone else has claimed that it was the Ampatuan clan. If this was his attitude I am surprised that something bad didnt happen to him before this.

I notice that he also said : this country is a killing field - something which I consider to be a huge misrepresentation of the facts- in fact an outright lie. I live in Davao City, and I certainly do not consider it to be a killing field. Nor did I consider Cebu-where I was last month- to be a killing field.

He very well might have been a good person, with the best of intentions, but it appears that he let his emotions get out of hand and lead him to saying things that were in my opinion counter-productive to affecting change in this country.

RIP

          Police Officer Test

How do you tell the difference between an Australian Police Officer, a
Canadian Police Officer, an American Police Officer and a Scottish police
      officer?
      The answer is  found below.

You're a policeman, on duty by yourself.
You are walking on a  deserted street late at night.
Suddenly, a man armed with a huge knife comes around the corner,  locks
eyes with you and screaming something that sounds like  obscenities, raises
the knife and lunges at you.
You are carrying your truncheon and are an expert in using it.
However, you have only a split second to react before he reaches you.

      QUESTION:  What do you do?

      ANSWERS:

      Australia:
Firstly, the Officer must consider the man's human rights.
        1) Does the man look poor and/or oppressed?
        2) Is he newly arrived in  this country and does not yet understand the
      law?
      3) Is this really a  knife or a ceremonial dagger?
      4) Have I ever done anything to him that would inspire him to attack?
      5) Am I dressed provocatively?
      6) Could I  run away?
      7) Could I possibly swing my truncheon and knock the knife  out of his
      hand?
      8) Should I try and negotiate with him to discuss his wrong-doings?
      9)  Why am I carrying a truncheon anyway and what kind  of message does
      this send to society?
      10) Does he definitely want to  kill me or would he be content just to wound
      me?
      11) If I were to grab  his knees and hold on, would he still want to stab
      and kill me?
      12) If  I raise my truncheon and he turns and runs away, do I get blamed if
he falls over, knocks his head and kills himself?
      13) If I hurt him and  lose the subsequent court case, does he have the
opportunity to sue  me, cost me my job, my credibility and the loss of my
      family home?

      Canada:
      BANG !

      America:
      BANG ! BANG ! BANG ! BANG ! BANG !  BANG ! BANG ! BANG ! BANG ! BANG !
      BANG ! BANG  ! '
      Click'...Reload... BANG ! BANG ! BANG !  BANG ! BANG ! BANG ! BANG ! BANG !
      BANG ! BANG ! BANG ! BANG !

      Glasgow Police  Officer:

      it stuck up yer arse!"

I'm driving to SFO later today (Sat) and will land in Cebu Monday morning... pretty damn excited, not looking forward to that long ass flight. I will take a small hit at currency exchange at the airport for some quick cash, then go to a Bank by the mall later on. I am bringing some cash and trying to avoid the fees for using my CC in Cebu. Lots of tee shirts, shorts have been packed, flip flops, sandals, and a pair of comfortable slip on's and short socks for the slip on's (not for the sandals  ) some American snacks, protein bars, and I plan on buying a ton of bottled water... no tap. I had a few trips scheduled but the weather looks like it will cancel a couple of them... just going to play it by the seat of my arse.  This will be my first visit in what I hope will be many. This is a precursor to possibly living there in the coming years once my mom (who I take care of) passes... I am so out of this chit state of Cali!!!. On paper I am planning on 3 visits this year, next in July, then at the end of the year, probably Christmas time (only if I am good with the first visit) I will be meeting the woman I have been talking with for half a year, and I will be meeting a member from LINC who befriended me after I got blasted by a few on here when I mentioned meeting a woman, and how I was supposedly doing it all wrong. (Thanks to Shadow for giving me some pointers) If I don't like the Phils then my next targets are Belize and Chiang Mai (possible business op with a friend) Nothing carved in stone, but I hope the Phils works for me. I'll probably be silent for about the next 2 weeks... but no promises if I feel I need to share some pics or something. In regard to pics... I noticed on here there are very few photos of of the members or things they are doing etc... shy? Scared? Protective? Too ugly?    Peace

Is it just me or what is up with the mall keeping the temp so warm? The wife and I went there to go shopping today and there was no way I wanted to stick around with the temps being so warm  and apparently I was not the only one, the mall was almost devoid of people.

My wife and I are listing our extra condo studio unit for sale, we bought this extra unit with the intent to move to Cebu full time but because of health issues, we will just continue our yearly stays, thus we do not need this extra unit which was intended for guests and storage, it is in Winland Tower C which is the newer tower of the two existing towers, so nothing fancy but inexpensive for a 30.27 sq meter unit, asking p1,600,000.00 CASH ONLY, that is less than half per sq meter of what most of the newer buildings going up are selling for. We will be in Cebu from February 24th to May 12th, so if anyone is interested and has cash for a quick sale then send me a message. The unit was freshly painted last May during our last stay and we left it empty.     pool area Building entrance Lobby Floor plan Photo taken standing just inside doorway, on the left is the door to the CR, to the right is the kitchen CR Kitchen Mountain view side or building so it is pretty cool in the unit most of the year, very little direct sunlight hits the unit itself. A/C hole and area to place bed etc. Shower and window to the hallway BBQ area and behind that glass is a gym with some equipment and CR's   Winland is far from top of the line but it is a decent place to live, which is close to just about all a person would need, many restaurants, banks, 7-11, coffee shops, laundry, internet cafe, McDo, Burger King, Jollibee, etc, walking distance to Robinson's Mall around 15 minutes, Osmena Circle, Ayala is close too, p60 or less by taxi or a 15 minute walk and all with low monthly and yearly costs. If a person wants top of the line then Winland will not be for them but many westerners live here and seem happy, why, because it cost so much less than many other places to live here and yet it is still very conveniently located.    Property taxes are around p3,000 a year, condo monthly dues are a little over p1,000 a month, so very inexpensive to upkeep.  Smart or Globe LTE pocket wifi works great in that unit if a person wants inexpensive internet for a full time or part time lifestyle like we do. Unit is wired for cable and telephone and has an intercom for the guard in the lobby to call up to the unit.  CASH ONLY, NO TERMS     Any other questions feel free to send me a message.
