Cebu & Philippines Weather Satellite Map, By Typhoon 2000

15 posts in this topic

I hate to correct you, but that this one isn't a typhoon, its a tropical depression, Typhoon can not loop, when they turn, they are a already weakening and become more harmless.

I just noticed the posts to this thread, and decided to reply again.

To make something clear here, I didn't need correcting in my post. It was accurate. I never stated either storm system was still a typhoon. I merely stated they both had made u-turns and headed off into other directions.

That last little turn makes me think it's heading for Manila, the typhoon magnet of the south Pacific.

It's that time of the year again, folks.

One of those turn arounds took off my tiled roof and dumped it on the car. Farm insurance payed for the roof but not the car. Typhoons don't loop. Well I wouldn't call 130mph winds a tropical storm.

Another one headed your way, northern Philippines.

It’s great that we now have these 3 informative sites a click away… FYI, the left sat IR site (Kochi sat, the same sat PAGASA uses) has up to about 1 hour delay, the center one on the right are sort of a “big picture” use and often there is up to about 12 hour delays (soetimes shorter)… No big deal except that when one wants to go to China, Korea or Japan, then taking Northern routes to Europe or North American. For example, as of this writing, there is a typhoon (WIPHA, or #26) affecting the route to Japan (from Manila or Cebu, the routes merge into one midway toward Okinawa) and airplanes may need to fly the Westerly route toward Taiwan, thus adding about 1 hour to your flight time. Not much of a problem unless you have an interline connection with minimal connecting time…

Sorry it’s rather a long preamble ;) but the weather does affect our daily life or planning thereof… Accordingly, I would like to suggest you add two more images there (5 would look more impressive, wouldn’t it? ;))

One is http://www.wunderground.com/global/stations/98646.html: this site will show you the hourly weather update (including METAR) of major Philippine cities and around the world…

The other is http://noah.dost.gov.ph/: by clicking Subic, Tagaytay, Cebu or Hinatuan Doppler, you could see the weather as recent as 30 min ago… By clicking PAGASA Cyclone Update (Weather Outlook), the cyclone tracks overlay the radar images (note: PAGASA tracing may have up to 12 hour delay). You could even see the eye of typhoon and if the PAGASA prediction is accurate… ;)

In summary, I would think adding the above 2 sites would complete the “LinC Weather Station”, IMHO :D

Don't know how long this has been an issue, but over the last few months Netflix and Amazon movies have been buffering, lately it has become annoying so I started looking into it.   I am in the US by the way, but think this could be an international problem. I am with Comcast Infinity and should have 20mb service with a Motorola SB6121 modem 6 to 7 years old.   This is not a rented modem from Xfinity, I own it. I have avg of 3.2 download and around 1 upload.   I contacted tech support and they were pretty good on the phone, but emphasized that this is not their modem so speeds are not guaranteed. After 20 minutes of on the phone resetting things, removing router from system they declared my modem is the problem and they want to send me one of theirs. At $10 month rental. I don't trust them but cannot seem to find a way to tell if it is the modem and cannot seem to find a way to test it.   Any thoughts on this or websites would be appreciated.

I'm driving to SFO later today (Sat) and will land in Cebu Monday morning... pretty damn excited, not looking forward to that long ass flight. I will take a small hit at currency exchange at the airport for some quick cash, then go to a Bank by the mall later on. I am bringing some cash and trying to avoid the fees for using my CC in Cebu. Lots of tee shirts, shorts have been packed, flip flops, sandals, and a pair of comfortable slip on's and short socks for the slip on's (not for the sandals  ) some American snacks, protein bars, and I plan on buying a ton of bottled water... no tap. I had a few trips scheduled but the weather looks like it will cancel a couple of them... just going to play it by the seat of my arse.  This will be my first visit in what I hope will be many. This is a precursor to possibly living there in the coming years once my mom (who I take care of) passes... I am so out of this chit state of Cali!!!. On paper I am planning on 3 visits this year, next in July, then at the end of the year, probably Christmas time (only if I am good with the first visit) I will be meeting the woman I have been talking with for half a year, and I will be meeting a member from LINC who befriended me after I got blasted by a few on here when I mentioned meeting a woman, and how I was supposedly doing it all wrong. (Thanks to Shadow for giving me some pointers) If I don't like the Phils then my next targets are Belize and Chiang Mai (possible business op with a friend) Nothing carved in stone, but I hope the Phils works for me. I'll probably be silent for about the next 2 weeks... but no promises if I feel I need to share some pics or something. In regard to pics... I noticed on here there are very few photos of of the members or things they are doing etc... shy? Scared? Protective? Too ugly?    Peace
