really think about this. I would never bring just the girl. Never. Nor would any sane person. If you are visiting an island and meet a girl's family she is sick. Would you travel alone it is not your child or even a relative. Where is his GF or Wife? Where is the family members? Sorry he sounds pretty guilty of something.

if a 67 yr old Filipino was found at an airport, train station or anywhere else in Australia with a 9 yr old girl, with no documentation that he was a friend of the family, or that he had just come from a hospital or a doctors office - how much time would you spend wringing your hands about this poor foreigner being railroaded?

And thats the freakin problem! We automatically assume that all old guys are perverts so that we can't even help a kid anymore. Is that what you want to see here? If he's a perv then hang him. If he's trying to help because the kid has no parents and the grandparents have no money or are not able to travel to Cebu then give him a medal. If the neighbor does not like him for whatever reason, tell him/her to mind their own business. I can tell you from experience that when a REAL crime is committed the neighbors don't see shit.

I wonder if all the people expressing righteous indignation and calling this guy stupid, ignorant, naive etc would themselves be aware of the terms of RA 7610 and the Anti-Child Abuse Law if not for forums like this? Maybe he doesn't spend all his time reading them as some do.

i personally have nothing to say at this point on is he guilty or not... and looking back i remember taking not one young girl 12 years old but also her sister 14 years old in a taxi to a resturant for a surprise birthday party for the youngest and the reason i was tasked to bring them as their mom ,,, my wife was already there setting up the baloons and banners... i never crossed my mind at that time that i could of been arrested but i guess if i was i could look foward to lots of things being said about me in a forum,, guess my mind wasnt thinking of how it would look only that this would be a day to remember for the youngest daughter of my wife... silly me lets at least wait for the glrl to say something

“We are gathering evidence to find out what appropriate charges we shall file against the suspect,” Hife said.

We shall file against the suspect. Not may file against the suspect. It seems to me that the police already have in their minds that the man is guilty. It could be that he is guilty, or it could be that he was doing a good deed. But in the cops mind, he is guilty, and in the Philippines, that's as good as guilty. He better have a large sum of cash to hand over, or its his final days in a Filipino prison for him. Probably quite the opposite of a Swedish prison. Apropos for a pedophile, a horrible fate for a Samaritan.

He is already guilty by letter of the law. There may be other charges but hopefully not. I don't imagine medical care is very good on Masbate but the story of her needing medical attention, perhaps a specialist, would be easily verifiable. No matter how good a friend of the family or how good his intentions were, I can't imagine someone thinking to bring someone else's child with them on such a trip.

As for the neighbor's though. They could also be good samaritans or just as likely just being friggin arses because the kano didn't loan them money or parked in front of their house once or whatever.

or who is 10 years or more his junior

According to what I've read on this site, that means just about everyone here is a criminal.

According to what I've read on this site, that means just about everyone here is a criminal.

You missed the word minor earlier in the sentence.

“keeping in his company a minor, 12 years or under or who is 10 years or more his junior in any public or private place”

This law regards any child 12 or under with any adult or any child 13-17 with an adult more than 10 years or more older. A 12yo with an 18yo, not good. A 13yo with an 18-22yo ok but not for sex. Sex between a 17yo and a 18yo still not ok but under different laws.

I think he is Innocent. and will be found innocent. The Jealous neighbor was probably against him/ his actions for what ever reason. I could be wrong but veee shall see.
