If his intentions were good, he obviously didn't deserve the trauma of being arrested/jailed.

Okay, let's say, for arguments sake that he was doing the right thing. He should have been smart enough to bring some of her family along with her. Why did he not do that? I mean, would the family not be concerned about her health as well?

Well, she lives with her grandparents, maybe the family is rather dysfunctional. OFW? There could be a number of reasons. The neighbor reporting it is the biggest red flag to me.

Red flag bigger than the "Kano" with a Pinoy child in an airport with no one else?

“We are gathering evidence to find out what appropriate charges we shall file against the suspect,” Hife said.

We shall file against the suspect. Not may file against the suspect. It seems to me that the police already have in their minds that the man is guilty. It could be that he is guilty, or it could be that he was doing a good deed. But in the cops mind, he is guilty, and in the Philippines, that's as good as guilty. He better have a large sum of cash to hand over, or its his final days in a Filipino prison for him. Probably quite the opposite of a Swedish prison. Apropos for a pedophile, a horrible fate for a Samaritan.

Why couldn't he brought with him a senior relative of the girl

I am sure that young children are never molested by uncles, or fathers, or other relatives Posted Image

Maybe the guy was 'doing bad' or maybe not. Any adult in care of a youngster as the potential for both. It is good that the authorities question the man and child but this:

“We are gathering evidence to find out what appropriate charges we shall file against the suspect,”

Is an automatic assumption that the man was not acting in the best interests of the child and it is unadulterated poison.

I went to the hospital the other day - I had an infectious boil on my neck.

Before I left I had 3 prescriptions, a bill from the doctor and a bill from the hospital.

Now this man was coming from another island to Cebu - she was so sick that they had to travel to Cebu for care - there isn't an adequate medical facility on Masbate to take care of the child, that they had to come to Cebu

He has no paperwork from the hospital or doctor he saw?

Sorry guys you can spin this anyway you want - if he can't produce one piece of paper proving he saw a doctor - he has no legs to stand on

1. It was not a relative that reported him
2. The authorities are already going to charge him.

Both of these facts tell me that its more likely he was doing the right thing, but he was not aware of the ;law. The relatives I hope will come forward and speak up for him. But another thing, this maybe a warning sign but it also could be a chilling effect of other well intentioned foreigners who see this and say its not worth the headache to try to help out in the RP because they are too concerned about tagging any foreigner and or getting a handout.

Why is that we spend so much time trying to get these people off - trying to make excuses for them - if a 67 yr old Filipino was found at an airport, train station or anywhere else in Australia with a 9 yr old girl, with no documentation that he was a friend of the family, or that he had just come from a hospital or a doctors office - how much time would you spend wringing your hands about this poor foreigner being railroaded?
