Hi All,

Our new house in Cebu is well progressed but we have hit a hitch with
windows and sliding doors as I am not happy with the quality of the
suppliers the builder put forward.

Does anyone have any (good/bad) experience using window and
door suppliers? Would appreciate any good contacts in particular
to get them to quote...!

Originally we had planned aluminium framed windows and sliding glass doors,
but I also see a lot of extruded PVC windows advertised here in Cebu. Again any
experience with the two types? advantages disadvantages?

I wanted safety (tempered) glass for the sliding door. The builder doesn't seem to know
what this is! Solution he offered is same glass but thicker....!! Is there any local term
or brand for safety glass? My main concern is the sliding doors in case someone tries to
walk through the glass....

Lastly we wanted our window & sliding door glass to be tinted (like one way mirror).
Again the builder samples just seem to be smoked/coloured glass rather than tinted.
Anyone know of local supplier of proper tinted glass?

Look forward to any ideas, advice or suggestions. We have to install our glass week
after next so need to make a decision quickly!

Best regards,

Bushman

Hi Bushy,

We have near finished building and used a mob called 'Cujed Glass Aluminium Supply' North Rd., Basak, Mandaue.
Their salesman (Loretto, 09195700116) was very helpful, called regularly on the site to ensure everything fitted properly etc.
These people supplied and fitted our color-bond roof, facia, guttering, windows and shower screens.
We received excellent service from them without any problems and they were true to their quotes which were very reasonable.
Don't know if they have the glass you want but they could be worth a call.
Cheers..

(We are simply satisfied clients of this company and have no other interest)

I too am not happy about the Quality of the Aluminium Windows and sliding doors, used on our house that BS Simbajon Construction had bought/used.

The locks/latches are diecast and several have broken

When I visited friends houses who bought Aust-Phil Aluminum Sliding Windows and. Colonial Bars, they are so much more superior in all aspects.

No doubt they cost more - but worth it I expect. I will have the Builder use Aust-phils Aluminum Int'l products.

They used to have a small Office/Showroom down that Road past Golden Peak and Myrah's Pension, where there was small parade of Shops including 'FlameIt' Burgers.
Aus-Phils Aluminium was to the laft in that parade,

Interesting. I had Ben (B.S. Simbajon) and his crew do two construction projects for me, and I have been very satisfied with the results on both projects. The only complaint I have about the aluminum sliding windows he used is that they appear to be single-pane, so the outside noises come through. One thing I have noticed is that sometimes you need to research the materials before you start work on a project, so you get what you want. Otherwise, he will go to his default suppliers (who may not have what you want). If you haven't already done the research to get the materials you want, you will create delays in your project when his buyer can't find it.

Hi All,

Just to follow up we have now visited about a dozen door/window firms
including those suggested. I din't realise there were so many out there,
but we sure now have a good feel for the window/door market and pricing.

We have finlly decided to go with Summit Glass. They are agents for
Hunter Douglas of the US. God show room and understood what we wanted,
offering some good practical advice. They also supply all kinds of safety and
tempered glass as well as the usual smoke coloured type.

I expected them to be expensive but in fact they were very competitively priced.
Service was good and they went straight to our building site to do there own
measurements etc.

They will start installation this week.

Will let you know how it all goes, but so far very promising.

Hi All,

We ended up getting (bronzed) aluminium frames with smoked glass.
All installed now and looking good. There were a few things we were
not happy with on initial installation, but we just made a note and Summit
sent their guys straight out and fixed everything to perfection. All in all a good
job, a great price and good service.

Best regards,

Bushman
