Hot Eee PC - USD 285.99 - is this a good buy?

http://www.livingincebuforums.com/ipb/index.php?showtopic=22330&st=50

As the comments came in on Eee PC - USD 285.99, I started looking to see if there was anything better, more suited to my requirements.

Norseman suggests it better to start new Topic when it is deviating from the original Topic Subject (pity that does not get applied to every Thread?)

I am still undecided to buy a Netbook PC or a Tablet PC, like the iPad, but having more functionality, Android 2.x OS, and less price.

The Samsung Galaxy Pad looked good but the price Tag was not so good.

So I am posting information about what products I find as 'interesting' possibilities that I might consider.

I have a Desktop PC at home and a Nokia N95 8GB. I am really looking for something in between these. Mobile portability, but offering larger viewing screen than what my N95 offers and Touch Screen might be better than using keyboard, but Bluetooth Mouse/Keyboard as optional alternatives perhaps.

So this NEW THREAD is to discuss alternatives to the iPad that offer a Tablet PC experience, but at a lower cost than an Apple iPad buy in (US$800?)

Here are the Top Ten Google search Results of alternatives to Apple iPad:-

Whilst it is interesting to see what alternatives to iPad are being suggested, these listed tend to be genuine alternatives as opposed to rip off 'clones', that tend to rather a lot cheaper. Actually they are not really iPad 'clones' but "inspired by iPad" is more accurate since the ones I am favouring have Google's Android OS, as opposed to Apples OS (and not really wanting MS Windows OS due to bloat ware - I would get a Netbook for such 'compatability)

This one from http://www.apad.tv/ did not come up on any of the above Lists, as far as I could tell from quick browse (perhaps because they may be considered as Chinese 'clones', except they are not really, especially on price as lot cheaper, but have more functionality, in many cases, particularly with regard I/O)

I prefer the IPAD for simplicity. Though the hacker in me wants the Android and the openness of the source code.

Android has come a long ways and has a huge market share. Plus you pay for that ease in the Ipad.

Come on Norseman with the US$ down to Php4.255, cant you splurge Php8,468 for a 10.2" Android 2.1 Tablet PC just to see what it is like?

Here is slightly lower price 7" version but Dual Core, Camera and 3G:-

or if that too much, then try US$109 (Php4,639) for 7" Android Tablet (with Free shipping)

My son is interested in Flash animation and Cartoon drawing. He does great work with a mouse, but says it is awkward and quite restricting. He would much rater be able to use a stylus style pen rather than a mouse. What is the best Tablet PC's for a young animator?

James, I have no personal experience of such Tablet PC's (YET!)

But having said that, if you go with Android OS for such Touch Screen Tablet PC (go for 10.2") then there will be FREE Applications for drawing

Just do a Google Search "Android OS Drawing app" and see:-

For that maybe a really cool device several guys in the office use and love would be great. It's the Wacom Bamboo stylus, if you have trouble getting it in PH let me know.
