Unlocked cellphones in the Philippines

12 posts in this topic

Does anyone have any experience with using unlocked cellphones purchased in the USA in the Philippines?  Which brand of US cellphone is compatible with the carriers in the Philippines. I take it , all you need is a sim card and it adapts to the carriers in the Philippines, yes?

It must be a GSM phone quad band also called world phone, really has nothing to do with brand, as phones are build for different areas

different areas, if the phone has LTE it may or may not work iwith LTE in philippines

Frequency bands used world wide

It is not quite that simple unless all you want to do is text and call, then as others have written any phone that is unlocked and at least a quad band would work but if you want one for fast internet such as 4G or LTE, then what is needed for Globe Philippines is different than what is needed for Smart Philippines. I use a ZenFone both in the US on AT&T (and it would work on T-Mobile and some others as well) and while in the Philippines on Smart, and I use it on the internet while in both countries but it would not work as well on Globe LTE if that was my choice while in the Philippines, below is a thread I made about it and you may find many of the members and my comments in it helpful.

Why not buy the phone in philippines

here is one http://www.lazada.com.ph/firefly-mobile-intense-desire-32gb-titanium-gold-3632758.html?spm=a2o4l.brand-11815.0.0.YW24GY&ff=1&sc=MScu&rb=11815

I have had it for 2 plus years, dropped it once from second floor hit a trash container on the way down still working

left it out in the rain one night, shaking it water came out, I put it in a plastic bag with some rice, to try dry it

it has been working perfect now for a year

It is a little outdated, android 5.1

You get it cheaper in e-mall or SM-city, than listed at lazada

there are good spec phone from firefly-mobile

The problem I have found with some phones sold in the Philippines that are not also sold in the U.S. is that they often do not have the LTE frequency needed for the U.S. carrier, always best to check first, some do not have the phone frequency for calls, that one is quad band so does, and often will not work well with the bluetooth on some U.S. cars, that in itself can be a pain at times when spending a lot of time driving and especially if in a state that does not allow cellphone use unless on bluetooth.

The phone I pointed out is so cheap that you can give it to someone when you leave

it is about 100 usd bought in e-mall or sm-city

the one I pointed out supports fdd-lte b1, b2, b3, b5, b7, b8 and b20
