Do you like hot sauce?

Recommended Posts

I made this last night and it is pretty good. It is a knock off recipe of a hot sauce used on hotdogs and hamburgers at a burger shack in Rochester N.Y. (Don and Bob's)

Ingredients

1 cup diced green peppers

 1 cup diced onion

1 kilo hamburger (I used ground goat)

2 quarts warm water

15 onces tomato sauce and 3 cans tomato paste

2 tablespoons chilli powder

1 tablespoon red pepper flakes (more if you want it super hot)

2 tablespoons paprika (known as pimenton here)

2 tablespoons allspice

2 tablespoons worcestershire sauce

2 teaspoons garlic salt (not available out here, so combined 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder with 1 1/2 teaspoon of salt)

2 teaspoons onion salt (same as above)

ground pepper to taste

Directions

saute vegetables, brown hamburg, combine all ingredients and simmer for 2 hours on top of the stove. or put all the ingredients in a slow cooker and simmer for 2 hours.

I did it on the stove and it actually took about 3 1/2 hours to come to the right consistency.

I just buy it in the store in town. It ain't Louisiana Hot Sauce or Tabasco but it's good. Many small eateries have it in town also.

I hesitated calling this a hot sauce, but that is what they have called it for years. It is really a spicey meat sauce and has a thick consistency. Thick enough that you have to spoon it, you can't pour it.

I had it on a hotdog today for lunch and will try it on homemade Italian sausage sandwich tonight for dinner. Well worth the time if you like that type of thing.
