Buying computer in the province

43 posts in this topic

The BIL is in a computer sciences course and needs a new laptop.  The whole thing has me a bit confused.  They want to order the computer from Lazada and have it delivered to Naval, Biliran.

The wife is telling me that they can order the computer from Lazada and pay for it when it shows up at LBC.   I find this very hard to believe that they would ship something that is not paid for but what do I know and it is the PI's  Any better place to buy a computer without traveling to Cebu?

Is there any way I could pay for this from the US and have it shipped to Naval?   Any and all suggestions, ideas, information, thoughts or wisecracks on how to go about this would be greatly appreciated.

The wife and I have been married 10 years, so there are no trust issues with this.      Jester

You can pay with a credit card, I never tried that

I like the idea that I have the packet in hand before money is out my pocket

I have used both Lazada and Openpinoy in the past with satisfactory results. Yes, Lazada will COD it, seems to be their preferred method. Many items are COD only.

I am in Naval. I order both paid for and COD items from Lazada. It's delivered to the door. LBC even text me to tell me the item has been received in the local office for delivery. Why don't you try Ormocnet. A years guarantee and you dont have far to take it back. Buy it from the states and it's probably made over here anyway.

I've gotten frustrated and given up with Lazada over this. You look at an item and then input your province and barangay and it says "COD available for this item at your location."

And then when you go to checkout it always says "COD not available for this item at your location."

edit: just tried it again and got this:

I ordered a Carrier inverter air conditioning unit a few weeks ago from Lazada using their COD method. Their website claimed delivery in 2-4 days (to Cebu) and they charged me just over 2,000p for shipping. Turned out they sent the damned thing via ferry and it took 2 weeks to deliver (with some parts broken). I used epoxy putty to repair the broken parts and just avoided trying to deal with Lazada customer service at all.

Don't know how long this has been an issue, but over the last few months Netflix and Amazon movies have been buffering, lately it has become annoying so I started looking into it.   I am in the US by the way, but think this could be an international problem. I am with Comcast Infinity and should have 20mb service with a Motorola SB6121 modem 6 to 7 years old.   This is not a rented modem from Xfinity, I own it. I have avg of 3.2 download and around 1 upload.   I contacted tech support and they were pretty good on the phone, but emphasized that this is not their modem so speeds are not guaranteed. After 20 minutes of on the phone resetting things, removing router from system they declared my modem is the problem and they want to send me one of theirs. At $10 month rental. I don't trust them but cannot seem to find a way to tell if it is the modem and cannot seem to find a way to test it.   Any thoughts on this or websites would be appreciated.

I'm driving to SFO later today (Sat) and will land in Cebu Monday morning... pretty damn excited, not looking forward to that long ass flight. I will take a small hit at currency exchange at the airport for some quick cash, then go to a Bank by the mall later on. I am bringing some cash and trying to avoid the fees for using my CC in Cebu. Lots of tee shirts, shorts have been packed, flip flops, sandals, and a pair of comfortable slip on's and short socks for the slip on's (not for the sandals  ) some American snacks, protein bars, and I plan on buying a ton of bottled water... no tap. I had a few trips scheduled but the weather looks like it will cancel a couple of them... just going to play it by the seat of my arse.  This will be my first visit in what I hope will be many. This is a precursor to possibly living there in the coming years once my mom (who I take care of) passes... I am so out of this chit state of Cali!!!. On paper I am planning on 3 visits this year, next in July, then at the end of the year, probably Christmas time (only if I am good with the first visit) I will be meeting the woman I have been talking with for half a year, and I will be meeting a member from LINC who befriended me after I got blasted by a few on here when I mentioned meeting a woman, and how I was supposedly doing it all wrong. (Thanks to Shadow for giving me some pointers) If I don't like the Phils then my next targets are Belize and Chiang Mai (possible business op with a friend) Nothing carved in stone, but I hope the Phils works for me. I'll probably be silent for about the next 2 weeks... but no promises if I feel I need to share some pics or something. In regard to pics... I noticed on here there are very few photos of of the members or things they are doing etc... shy? Scared? Protective? Too ugly?    Peace
