  1. A great friend and a really "good bloke" as we say in Australia. Andy was always willing to help and having the bar he met plenty of people needing help. Andy's health has been getting worse and in the end he did not seek further medical help .... it was his time to go and he seemed happy about it. He died peacefully at home.
  2. Given I grew up riding KTM's in various forms that have a seat that is "as hard as a brick" the Yamaha is plush! The real limitations are the fuel range and the fact that all other road users are going so much slower!
  3. Given the conditions of the roads and everything you have to avoid a motard is my choice. Huge brakes, instant power, 50+Hp with a 100kg weight. Great Fun!
  4. I have a home in Dalaguete. There has been no change to the situation here. Quiet, peaceful, friendly locals. Upon speaking to many locals and imports about this the usual reaction is they just laugh! No one here is locking themselves in their homes and praying that the bad people stay away!
  5. Ocean Bay Resort in Dalaguete is nice. It is Ocean front with a pool, kids playground, BBQ's etc. The food is better and cheaper than Triple B.
  6. My wife nd i live on the Northern Beaches of Sydney and have been have no luck finding a Calamansi tree in our local garden centres. Where did you get yours from?
  7. Thanks so much for all the information. i will try the easy options suggested and report back, hopefully with some pictures to share!
  8. I am hoping that someone will steer me in the right direction. Having bought my first DSLR, a Cannon EOS1200D, I have taken many photos of my house in Dalaguete, family, friends etc and found that the image size was set a the maximum level. I have now many photos that are 5 to 7mb in size. Nice to look at but no good to load to LIC (max file size 2mb) and many other sites. Now that the photos are downloaded to my computer, how do I reduce the file size to a reasonable level?
  9. Fantastic bike, what a pity they are not being made anymore. The 650 Terra / Strada was created when BMW owned Husky. It used a hotted up (extra 10hp) BMW GS650 motor in a Husky frame. Husky was sold by BMW to KTM and that was the end of it. It only lasted a year or two. Apart from the KTM690 it was the best 650 adventure bike made an ideal for this Country. My only fear in buying one would be parts supply in the future. KTM have given no word as to parts supply of older Husky's after the exisiting stock runs out. i agree that a 650 single adventure bike is the perfect bike for the Philippines.
  10. Is there any news of when it will open, in whole or in part?
  11. i have a home in a small security estate in Dalaguete, about 2 hours South of Cebu City. i have left my home vacant ~ no maid, dog, security system, auto weapon system etc, for up to six months at a time and NEVER had a break in. None of the homes in our small 6 home estate has ever been broken into. It can't just be luck, i have owned the house for over 3 years now and its been vacant more than occupied as it a holiday home for my wife and i.
  12. I live about two hours South of Cebu city and have a few friends that own the type of resort you are interested in. Up until the whale sharks arrived a few years ago they were all doing it tough. They all survived but apart from Holy week, Christmas and and the odd special occasion there were not close to being full. Then the whale sharks arrived and stayed and they have all seen at least a 100% increase in business. Many have built more rooms, bought boats etc. The bottom line is we are about 2 to 3 hours from an international airport and the second largest city the in the Country and have an attraction apart from diving, waterfalls etc that the tourists of all nations want to see. Much of the increase in their business is from locals not tourists and not just from Cebu City but all over the Country. We are now a holiday destination. Unless your position has a similar attraction and location to a major airport i would question spending that kind of money. Php 20 million would not buy you a decent resort in out area now where as 5 years ago you could have picked just about any one. A resort in Alcoy that has an ocean view, not waterfront in fact quite away from the ocean has just sold for a bit under php 40 million.
  13. My first visit to McDonalds in Car Car. I live in Dalaguete and had to take one of my dogs to the vet in Car Car so i packed up a few of the dogs favourite female helpers and set off for an adventure with the promise of McDonalds for lunch. Everyone excited including the dog. First problem was that the girls started vomiting from car sickness. That started the dog vomiting. Does anyone else have this issue with girls in cars? I question the girls as to why you are not feeling well (and vomiting in my near new car!) They reply "sorry sir this is the first time we have been in a car". I reply do you do this when you catch the bus? "Yes sir" is their answer. I suggest that they should have told me this before the trip. They reply that "if we told you sir then you might not have taken us and we really want to try Mcdonalds"! At least the dog has a solution and proceeds to eat the girls vomit. We get to the vet and all OK with my little man / dog. Just a few shots and we are away. Park in SM Supermarket carpark next to Mcdonalds. The dog is on his lead and i give it to the security guard while we go inside. Try doing that in a western country. I buy the girls a variety of food types and a cheese burger for the dog. The end result was that the dog liked the burger but the girls would rather have Jollibee. Complaints like no spagetti, too expensive, it tastes different etc. Back in the car (after giving the security guard php100 ... please come again sir and bring your dog no problem ... ) we make it about half way home and the vomiting starts again and the girls start looking very green. The dog gets excited knowing he about to have his third meal of the day. We get home everyone jumps out of the car and the housekeeper and gardener get to give the car / seats etc a good clean. Does this count as one of those "ONLY IN THE PHILIPPINES STORIES".
  14. Black Ant from most Mango bars at 600 for a pack of 4 is fantastic.
