  1. I'll go back to San Francisco island tomorrow. Family birthday. I plan to take the boat from Danao to Consuelo. I'll try to stay 10 or 12 days. Next weekend is big holiday(All Saints Day & All Souls Day) so I will try not to travel around that time. Last time I was there was in June. Not much to do in Camotes- & that's what I plan to do- not much- So it may not make a real exciting trip report but I will do what I can. Internet & cellphone coverage can be slow or not at all for me where I am- Jomalia Shipping line is the boat we take- can take cars & motorcycles- sometimes more cars show up than space on the boat- so be prepared. I'll try to provide current rates- In June it was about 1,500 pesos for a Suzuki multicab including some port fees. That includes fare for one passenger. 2 classes- Aircon has nice airline type seats- assigned seating. There's a little cafe on board some of the boats. Nice- There's 3 or .4 boats- maybe more. I don't know if every boat has a cafe. I woke up 1AM- jetlagged- so any mistakes in fact, spelling, grammar or opinion I blame on that & welcome any corrections Enjoy your day-
  2. Thanks to everyone who posted- I will follow this topic with a lot of personal interest. My daughter turns 16 next week. Under age 18 she has to appear in person. It would be a whole lot easier to do that in Cebu than go to Manila. If they will be doing passport services here. Congrats to all who follow developments here & then take time to post.
  3. Good news for me, I hope-- I'm in Philippines now wanting to renew my daughter's expired USA passport in Cebu (not Manila!). So I'll be real happy to read any information & experience that people take time to post here. Regards to all
  4. Big thanks for your information samatm. I read here on Living in Cebu that the USA Consulate in Cebu is closed- I don't know if that's temporary or permanent. If the applicant is under 18, I believe they have to appear personally- & miss some school days. So I want to have all the documents we need- especially if we have to go to Manila. Thanks again for the tip on photos. No immediate travel plans- just good to get it done while I am still able.
  5. My daughter is 16 years old. She needs to get her USA & Philippine passports renewed. This is the third passport for her. She has been to USA 3 times (doesn't like the food or weather). USA passport renewal stuff I don't completely understand. Her USA passport expired August 2015. I read that it's OK to renew within 5 years of expiration of last passport. As I understand from reading the US Government website, she can appear by herself at age 16, but better to appear with one parent. The way I read it, we have to go to the embassy in Manila. Is that true? I think the consulate in Cebu is closed? I have some other things I don't understand about the process, but I don't want to make this post too long. Anyone who has done this or knows more about it, please let me know if you have time. Also, If you can recommend any immigration attorney or visa facilitator!
  6. A big thanks! That's the info I need-- I'm happy to hear that I won't have to go to Manila! I got her USA passport here in Cebu when she was 4 & again when she was 10-- I am glad to be able to do it here again-- & Also for the info on travel agent Regards, More later
  7. THANKS for the info-- It's a passport renewal. She has USA & Philippine passports. Kids have to renew every 5 years & her time has come up. She's a dual citizen, so doesn't need a visa to go to USA or come back to Phillipines (with a current passport) Anybody who has done this with their kids?
  8. She is 15 years old. She needs to get her USA & Philippine passports renewed. This is the third passport for her. She has been to USA 3 times (doesn't like the food or weather). Philippine passport complications, but I think under control. USA passport stuff I don't completely understand. Her USA passport expired August 2015. I read that it's OK to renew within 5 years of expiration of last passport. As I understand from reading the US Government website, she has to appear with both her mother & father (OK, we can do). The way I read it, we have to go to the embassy in Manila. Is that true? can we appear at the consulate in Cebu? I have some other things I don't completely understand about the process, but I don't want to make this post too long. Anyone who has done this or knows more about it, please let me know if you like. Also, If you can recommend any immigration attorney or visa facilitator! Big Thanx- I have been out of the Philippines for a year & a half, & I will post some other stuff on the Camotes thread, the boat building thread, house building thread & etc.
  9. YES, I've seen them a few times swimming near my place in Camotes. I looked them up on the internet. Very shy, not agressive. Venom supposedly very deadly, however not likely to bite, & they have small jaws so unlikely to deliver a fatal dose to a person. I'd be curious if anyone has read any credible reports on them biting humans? Said to hunt small fish around the reefs.
  10. I have an update- a bit Late (I've been out of town). I went to a local Western Union office. I got all of my money back. Including fees. I got an automated response to my email. It gave me a phone # to call. I haven't had time to call yet. The last calls I made were to offshore call centers. Talking with people whose english is heavily accented- you know- like Brits or Canadians I will be back in Cebu in August & see what I can set up. Thanks for the info about LBC & Wells Fargo & etc- I'll try to follow up.
  11. Thanks for the replies. I will try to read the forum & google tomorrow- I just wanted to post while I was still annoyed- & let people know- as some of you already do- That putting money into some places can be like that Roach Motel commercial- "It checks in, but it don't check out" regards to all & to all a good night
  12. This is the email I sent to Western Union- Sorry for all caps- I'm posting this so others can be aware that they might have a similar problem & run into delays sending their money. Not to start any fights. I already know that I'm various kinds of idiot, so pointing it out would probably be redundant. Also to see if anybody can please recommend another money transfer service. (I can't do a bank wire at this time- no bank account in Cebu) I think all this has to do with "suspicious activities". OK-- But if it triggered a flag at the receiving (Cebu) end, why not at the sender's (USA) end? Short answer- Customer inconvenience not important to that company. "WESTERN UNION'S AUTOMATED SYSTEM SAID THE MONEY WAS AVAILABLE IN THE PHILIPPINES. IT WAS NOT AVAILABLE. I CALLED YOUR CALL CENTER, I WAS INFORMED THAT I WAS NOT ALLOWED TO SEND MONEY THROUGH WESTERN UNION. 1) WHY AM I NOT ALLOWED TO SEND MONEY THROUGH WESTERN UNION? 2) IF I AM NOT ALLOWED TO SEND MONEY THROUGH WESTERN UNION- WHY DID YOUR AGENT ACCEPT MY MONEY? I HAVE BEEN USING WESTERN UNION TO SEND MONEY TO MY CHILD FOR 13 YEARS. THIS IS THE SECOND TIME I HAVE HAD THIS PROBLEM WITH YOUR COMPANY." thanks for reading & enjoy!
  13. As of last night everyone OK at my place near San Isidro on San Francisco island, Camotes. One goat attached to a piece of roofing flew over the wall. Survived. Storm waves in the ground floor. Some damaged tin roofing, lots of trees reported down in San Isidro town
  14. Thanks everybody-- I'll be back in Cebu soon & I will try to check it out--
  15. Sometimes I need an overnight stay in Danao, waiting for the early boat to Camotes-- don't need a fancy resort. thanks
